to think Hollyoaks should not be shown before the watershed

I have just caught an episode in which they showed

  • men kissing (dont really have to much of a problem with that)
  • men in bed together
  • a young girl dound dead
  • a murder

Why is it shown at 6.30 and aimed at children?

I have banned my DS10 from watching it - but surely i shouldnt have to worry when its on at this time

I think it's aimed at older teens but I agree it should be on later than 6:30pm (feel the same for the 7:30 EastEnders slot)

I was just thinking that The Simpsons is getting more and more near to the knuckle too.

Can't stand either programme.

GlynistheMincePie · 28/12/2010 19:08

I hate the fact it's on right after the Simpsons and I sometimes get caught out if I'm prepping dinner and the LO is watching, but how do you get the idea it's aimed at kids?

It's on a 'cult' channel, and doesn't even have sandwich box branding Xmas Wink

SmokinSanta · 28/12/2010 19:12

I agree. There has been 2 murders this week - a strangulation and a hammer attack. There are more adult themes than a lot of programmes not shown until after 9pm.

It was contraversial when it started, but nothing like this. I think it needs reviewing/

There is loads of unsuitable programmes before the watershed.

Which is why we don't watch them. I hate the Simpsons but dh is in charge of supervising dd watching it as he likes it.

We don't watch soap operas, they are utter shit and they fuck with your mental health.

geordieminx · 28/12/2010 19:17

Oooh what happened tonight? I missed it.

I agree though, I tend to watch it as ds is having his supper/having a story read. He's only 3.

taintedsnow · 28/12/2010 19:19

Men kissing shouldn't be singled out. Or the bed bit, since you see implied sex scenes in an awful lot of pre-9pm shows.

Is it the fact that it's two men in bed?

I agree somewhat on the murder part though.

racmac · 28/12/2010 19:20

Glynis - Its aimed at kids because its kids acting in it.

What is the point of the watershed?

Brendan lost the plot and shot and battered some bloke. You dont see the gun but you hear the gunshots and see him loosing the plot and kicking/hitting him.

I have banned DS from watching but he was watching Simpsons when it came on hence i hadnt noticed.

I dont have a problem with them portraying gay relationships - its a fact of life but it makes me uncomfortable that they show 2 men in bed but it is also a controlling abusive relationship ( I think from what i have seen)

It leads to questions that i dont think DS is really ready for and Im all for being honest - Im struggling to explain myself

I really dislike that Brendan character and actor anyway, so maybe that makes me biased. I just find him really creepy (guess thats the point) and he makes my skin crawl.

There are a lot of sex scenes in Hollyoaks, always have been. But they seem to be getting more graphic.

taintedsnow · 28/12/2010 19:28

Yes, the relationship is quite abusive, you're right on that one. Not a problem for me that it's two men, but Brendan is a nasty character.

GlynistheMincePie · 28/12/2010 19:32

racmac - i think perhaps your definition of 'kids' is different to mine then Hmm

Darren Day is hardly a kid, but yes the actor who plays Tom is..but haven't seen 'Tom' get a kicking

There are 'kids' acting in all sorts of dramas, maybe we should only have adults acting in adult themed screenplays then?
