So. If Boden, Joules, jigsaw, Whistles etc are too 'boring & middle class', H&M, topsho, primark are too cheapy and 'trendy' (for the most part) & designers are too expensive - then where is left for a 40yr old to buy clothes?

Just wondering......

Mowiol - I'm 54 and I don't wear much Boden because it is too old and frumpy for me! (probably the oldest person to be getting their skinny jeans from the Johnnie B range?) I like Top Shop, Phase Eight, Jigsaw ( my favourite but very pricy) Whistles and sometimes get cheap bits to pad out wardrobe from Peacocks/Matalan/Sainsburys.

White Stuff? Toast?

IDK - I am not in my 40s, but I hope to still shop at these places when I am Confused

I have only recently discovered Boden and love it. However, I think it's far more stylish to mix and match from different stores and pick up items i like when I see them. I am nearly 39 and also feel as other posters have stated the need to become more together!! I like Phase Eight dresses for special occasions but tend to buy in the sales, I get basics (tshirts, shirts, jeans), from Boden, Bananna Republic and sometimes Gap. I live abroad so shops that many MN's talk about are not abvailable to me. I think that's why Boden has been such a hit with me as I can read others reviews.

Kew is brilliant. Phase 8 has got quite good. Benetton has some great wraps and sweaters. Kaliko, Fenn Wright and East all have some good things among the floaty stuff, and even though it's everwhere, SAHMs round here wear lots of White Stuff, Fat Face and Boden. M&S Autograph is not bad either for basics, same with Uniqlo.

MilliONaire try New Look for jeans. £10-30 and they do a range of styles. I bought some skinny fit ones for a tenner in the summer and they're still going strong. They have a bit of stretch (lycra?) in them, which makes them more forgiving and surprisingly comfy.

White Stuff is where most of my friends seem to buy their clothes. Sometimes Fatface is bearable, depends on the season/collection.
