my sister and her husband who are on full benefits and pull job seekers the pair of them in their free house have had £25 per week for the last 2 weeks in 'cold weather' allowance and im sure will get it again next week too.

im single parent and work part time and as im not on benefits im not entitled to luxuries such as heating.

i have shitty storage heating which are too expensive for me to turn on plus i have an old un-insulated house with no double glazing so when ive had them on in the past the heat just escapes anyway. i only have the one on in ds's room so that he doesn't get ill like ive been all xmas.

my house is freezing and i have to wear layer upon layer of clothing when im here.

yet they get £50 FOR A FORTNIGHTS FREE HEATING!! so unfair. punished for having a job - again!!

izzywizzy, why would alan sugar be in receipt of a CWP??? he isn't in IS or JSA.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 22:58

ermmm - no Lord Sugar doesn't get his CWP............unless he suddenly lost his job recently???

AuntiePickleBottom · 27/12/2010 23:00

lord sugar did get the winter payment he donated it to charity after spending alot of time trying to give it back

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 23:01

no Lord Sugar would NOT have got a Cold Weather Payment

He may have got his Winter Fuel Allowance - but he won't have got a CWP unless his circumstances have changed dramatically without anyone knowing.........

izzywizzywoowooo · 27/12/2010 23:01

Oops, Winter Payment. Blush

izzywizzywoowooo · 27/12/2010 23:01

Oh shit. Winter Fuel Allowance. That is what I am talking about.

LoveBeingADaddysGirl · 27/12/2010 23:02

Rather than moaning do something;

  • are you entiltled to cheap/free insulation?
  • are you getting all the money you are entiled too?
  • report anyone breaking the law
  • check what your paying out, could you reduce your bills
ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 27/12/2010 23:02

what is teh difference between winter fuel allowance (never heard of this) and CWP?

JaquelinehydeAllThePresents · 27/12/2010 23:03

Yes I vote we just let them freeze to death, that would solve the debt crisis!

If you can't be bothered to report someone for suspected fraud then I don't think you can get all offended by a cold weather payment.

izzywizzywoowooo · 27/12/2010 23:03

I THINK the Winter Fuel Allowance is for the over.. 60's? I have no idea.

Google. Grin

GypsyMoth · 27/12/2010 23:04

I'm due my 5th payment. Been colder here I guess!!

They are automatic based on postcode

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 23:04

Xmas Grin Izzy - you were correct though that you don't have to apply for the CWP - it just appears if/when you're entitled to it and the weather has been cold enough.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 27/12/2010 23:05

ah right.

so all over 60's get that? but teh under 60's who are in receipt of certain benefits get CWP?

JaquelinehydeAllThePresents · 27/12/2010 23:06

Winter fuel allowance is a paytment all OAP's are entitled to regardless of weather conditions and is not means tested.

Cold weather payments of £25 per week are available to certain groups of people on benefits when the average weekly temperature is freezing or below.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 23:06

Tiff - that bad snow you had made all the difference - over the county border up here due my 4th

BitOfFun · 27/12/2010 23:08

Oh this has cheered me right up- I must have had some extra money then, jolly good.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 23:08

yes - the WFA is paid to OAP's living in the South of France and other much warmer places. Regardless of how warm a winter they have.

CWP is worked out on postcode area/temp - so if the average temperature in Bedfordshire in one week was -1 - those eligble will get their CWP - if over in neighbouring Northamptonshire it was 1 degree for that week they (Northants lot) won't.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 23:10

if you think you may be eligble for the CWP you can check if/how many are due \link{http://pensions.direct.gov.uk/en/cold-weather-payment/home.asp\here} just type in your postcode.

I've noticed that the payments often come before the letter telling you you're getting it.

natandchris10 · 27/12/2010 23:16

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 27/12/2010 23:29
