to refuse to take DS out on his new skateboard?

DS (6.4) got a skateboard which he really wanted for Xmas.

We have spent the morning lazing playing new games etc and had a late breakfast.

I told DS its freezing outside but I would take him to the beach for a bit so he could go on his skateboard. I had a jumper and trousers for him in the lounge and asked him to get boxers, sox and vest or t shirt. He comes back 2 mins later with boxers. Ask him to get sox and t shirt and 2 mins later comes back with calculator keyring and wallet (old) and wants me to attach them. I say not now as we are going out and he walk to kitchen off the lounge and stands in door looking at TV. I switch off TV and ask him again to get toshirt and sox. Off he goes and comes back with trainer sox, t shirt and swim shorts Shock. I reiterate its freezing out (-4° here today) and he needs just a t shirt and proper sox as I have trousers and jumper for him.

He comes back with other shorts. Get sent to put them back comes back with other trousers. I tell him again what I wanted him to get and say he has 10 seconds. He does not put trousers back and return in this time as he stops to do something else.

So I have said no beach as it took him half hour to get 3 things that was his beach time wasted. Its almost time for lunch and I need to pop to the co-op.

I feel mean and unreasonable but I think he needs to learn?

YANBU.

I would however tell him there's another chance this afternoon, as soon as he is properly dressed. BTW: if it's difficult to get clothes on him, good luck with knee/elbow pads and wrist protectors!

Sounds like he's just being an average boy!

And its christmas, so he's probably out of routine, tired, and not able to concentrate too well.

Is he usually this disorganised?

MumBarTheDoorSantaUsesChimneys · 26/12/2010 15:17

yes he's totally disorganised I flit between annoyance and concern that he is unable to follow the simple most commonsense instructions. Even put your coat and jumper on ended up with coat no jumper then jumper no coat.

We have been out now - I did get the wrist, elbow and knee pads on him after threatening to turn round and go home if he didn't stand still!! He had a lovely time and was rolling down hills standing up on it by the end!!

One of my little darlings was forever disorganised. Still is.

Turns out he has dyspraxia/DCD! it all made sense in the end, he just can't help it.

Glad ye had a nice outing.
