It's 7am on Christmas day. I will be working a 12 hour shift. A colleague has just rung to ask me to be early because her taxi is booked for 7:45 and the taxi company is very busy today. This colleague will just be finishing a 12 hour shift.

I am normally 10 minutes early, and do learn working while nightshift has 2 staff members.

AIBU to be really really pissed off that she felt the need to ring me for that?

yanbu!

Thanks. I know she is anxious to get going, this is an ongoing thing withe several night staff as they also have day jobs.

It just so happens that she is the only one who doesn't arrive early so I can go home [fslightly miffed face as not really that angry]

She's paid till 8am and always skips off early!

Sorry, meant to say - I am pissed off because she felt the need to ring me at home an hour before my shift starts to ask me to do something I already do.

I'm slightly miffed about the skiving off early thing, but understand the reasons behind it.

Maybe she thought you might not arrive early today as it's Xmas, and was worried about getting home?

littleducks · 25/12/2010 10:15

I would be angry too, she shouldnt be ringing you at that time in the morning-so your shift starts at 8?

onmyfeet · 25/12/2010 10:17

If I were her, and felt the need to ask you to come early, I would have not waited until the last minute. However, don't let it annoy you, not really important, she is probably just anxious about being there for her kids waking up.
Merry Christmas!

I don't know what her reasoning was, but definitely not the same as mine!!

littleducks, yes I do 12 hour day shifts 8-8pm then night staff do 8-8am.

onmyfeet, I am always ten minutes early because I need time to get a proper handover for the day and because I know that several of the night staff also do day shifts. I was once half an hour late leaving because of this! Which, by the way, I don't mind at all because it gives continuity of care Xmas Smile

PS I'm only pissed off because she rang and demanded, not because she needed me in early - it's a pretty sensible unwritten rule imo
