To be incandescent with rage at my HR Dept

I am on maternity leave from a large organisation. It was agreed and confirmed about a million times that I would be put back on the payroll on 21st December (though with taking my annual leave I wouldn't actually be back in the office until late Jan). I have this morning received my pay advice for December that clearly states I shall not be put back on until 1st January - and have no pay for December. There is no one in HR today to tell me how this will be put right or when. there isn't even a message to say if anyone will be in between Xmas and NY. I based my financial planning for my maternity leave on the fact that I would get the last week of december pay. I am really upset by this and very stressed. Sorry - just needed to rant.

Have you tried contacting the payroll depatrment directly? I work for acompnay that does payroll outsourcing and very likley that the instruction to pay you was put through but not processed due to inefficency Sad If you can gvei them the proff- eg email where it as agreed it was the 21st then they should be able to access a perosn to authorise a CHAPS payment. Are you really so strapped for cash NOW that you need those 10 days pay immediateley? SInce you have it in writing that you would be paid, you know you will get it, but maybe not til Jan.

I assume you should be paid on the 31st. Monday and Tuesday are bank hols so nobody will be around, but Wednesday and certainly Thursday there should be someone in. They will be able to sort a CHAPS payment if it's too late for BACS so you should still get your pay on time.

When I had previous problems with pay I was told that under no circumstances could I speak to anyone else in the chain ie pay division itself. They don't give out the phone numbers

I will be able to manage without the money - just - but I know this will take ages to put right and I hate having such stress as I am pregnant and have terrible morning sickness.

Thank you all for your time and advice - here's to hoping I'll be able to get hold of someone on Wednesday.

They might not give out numbers, but they absolutely should either transfer you or have someone call.

They will have a complaints/grievance process, too.

To all who took part in this thread - thank you - HR got in contact by email this morning saying that pay services had inexplicably made a mistake. This will be rectified today and i will be paid the correct money on Friday. My faith in humanity is thus restored and I overflow with the milk of human kindness.

Thank goodness!

Hope thats a weight off your mind.

Glad there was someone monitoring e-mail - with so many firms the gap from Christmas Eve to after New Year's Day is a time when whole buildings are closed, and some annual leave must be taken to cover the 3 days not provided as bank holidays.

Good job they are clued up enough to acknowledge the mistake and rectify it. I was chasing someone on 21st about unpaid invoices and both were paid, one on 23rd the other on 24th (same director handles finances, but two different businesses with separate bank accounts, and from the 1 extra day, likely to be with a different bank as well).

Pleased to hear they sorted it out OP. A load of your mind.....Also happened to me when I was on maternity leave and they had to do an emergency payment
