Do people have exceptions to their Nestle boycott?

Lots of mentions on MN about eating Quality Street around Christmas time.

If you boycott Nestle, is that just a general guideline or is it a total ban?

I admit I can't turn down a Matchmaker.

Our local branch of Sainsbo doesn't stock the multigrain hoops (weanh :( ...I did buy them when available). Our local Sainsb also doesn't stock McVite's cheddars any more, preferring to overflow the shelves with Ritz crackers instead -- whose bright idea was that? Hmm I'll try to remember to look around again, supposedly these products might reappear (staff tell me).

That's a bit purist, AllFallDown. Nestle monitors their market share and will notice that there is a stubborn group of people out there who indicate that they're not especially brand-loyal and yet still won't switch no matter how attractive Nestle make their products. They spend a lot of money to try to notice that kind of thing.

I had an email exchange with General Mills where I told them specifically that I would not buy Cheerios marketed outside of the USA because of the Nestle boycott -- no reply from GM, but at least they were informed.

Xenia just out of interest - what DO you eat? No processed food, no bread, no pickles, no cheese ...?? You don't want to end up like Gillian McKeith now, do you? Grin

We boycott Nestle and all related products. You can pretty much replace anything they do with something similar (Co-op's own kit-kat etc). We also buy Fair Trade coffee, tea and bananas and chocolate whenever possible, although there are still issues with some of the Fair Trade policies I think.

I eat like people used to eat before we started poisoning ourselves with rubbish. I eat all sorts of foods. Potato, brown rise, beef, turkey, eggs, corn on the cob, all kinds of lovely things.

PlanetEarth · 26/12/2010 22:21

My exceptions are when the kids ask for particular things, e.g. cereal. Sometimes I say no and sometimes I cave Blush. And someone gave me a box of Quality Street, I will definitely eat it. Nestle will not be any worse off if I throw it in the bin, will they?

PlanetEarth · 26/12/2010 22:22

Oh and as another poster said, it's hard to keep up with which companies they own...

FunnysInTheGarden · 26/12/2010 22:32

I boycotted Nestle for years, until I realised that Gold Blend was THE only decent instant you could buy.............My morals are cheap Grin

For those of you wondering whether there is any point boycotting Nestle, read this from the Q&A with Mike Brady from Baby milk Action (scroll just over half way down and read the answer to scrappydappydoo's question)

ManicMother7777 · 27/12/2010 12:17

Cheap morals here too! I agree with you Funny, I love their premium instant coffee range(alta rica, espresso) as IMO they are nearly as good as proper coffee and I'm afraid until there's a fairtrade product that's as good, I will continue to be unable to resist.

Have made three exceptions in last year- 1)had promised DS an icecream at wildlife park and only Nestle available. Bought him one but not self. 2) DS had Nestle stuff in party bag from friend. Let him eat it. 3)Was on boat in middle of sea off Turkey in 40 degree heat. Only water available nestle. Drank it, I'm afraid.
Was very sorry to see George on Nestle ad. Given his stance on Sudan, very surprising.

DrSeuss · 27/12/2010 12:32

Re cereal-Aldi do a pretty good imitation version of Cheerios.

barmybinky · 24/04/2011 23:30

I don't buy anything Nestle owned or part owned and haven't for the last 8 years. The single thing I miss is shredded wheat and I have yet to find an alternative.
