to not think food should go through the clothing tills?

I was at M+S, in the clothing half, and people were putting huge trolleys of food through the clothing tills. There are tills in the food section with conveyor belts, and the ones in the clothing section are just a counter (that's normal I think, isn't it?). And not just biscuits and chocolates, but raw meat, fish, veg.

I spoke to the cashier, and all she said was 'It's very busy in the food section. We can wipe it if you want'.

So, AIBU to not want to put clothing I'm buying on a counter where someone else has put smoked fish, or wet frozen food?

yanbu - the odd pack of prepacked biscuts etc is inoffensive, but some people do try it on.
The other day a woman had a whole pile of stuff, including some sort of deli type item that it tranpsired had leaked. Anyway, hoo-ha, another one fetched for her, she paid, went away. I was back in the queue, but saw the cashier put through the next persons's items, all clothing, and had trouble getting it in the bag. She said - ooh, my hands must still be a bit greasy from that leaky packet - I'll go an wash them in a minute Xmas Shock.

Hmm, a solomonic compromise is called for I think. So: kosher food yes, trayf no.

I put clothes through the m&s self service checkout. Why queue for two tills in the same shop?

If I were the cashier I would have Hmm at you. Get a grip.
