AIBU to want to be celebrated a little?

I graduated on Monday with a Master's degree. It was something that I've been wanting to do for a long time, and I did really well in my course, in addition to taking care of the children on the days I didn't have lessons, keeping the house, etc. My DH and his family were really supportive while I was studying, and I was really grateful for all their help, so that I could concentrate on my coursework when I needed to.

BUT...though my DH went with me to graduation, there was no dinner planned, no out for drinks, no bottle of champagne...nothing! I didn't want a big fuss, but it might have been nice for us to pick the kids up after the ceremony and have a nice meal out somewhere. Am I just being a bit ridiculous to have wanted SOMETHING to celebrate my accomplishment??

Well done. Why don't you suggest taking everyone out to celebrate?

YANBU. He should have organised a meal out, or at the very least cooked something special and cracked open the champagne.

YANBU

Big, big congratulations on your achievement :)

YANBU. I threw a party when Gomez graduated as a mature student, I was so proud of him.

It's a huge achievement to go back to study made even bigger when you have a family to look after.

Well done to you.

YANBU at all. It's nice to feel special once in a while and I know from bitter experience (via my family not my DH) what it's like not to get any recognition for achievements. In fact passing my driving test will always stick in my memory because when I came home DH was waiting with a bottle of champagne and bunch of flowers and he'd booked a restaurant for that night. That day was happier and more memorable than the day I got maximum points in my Leaving Cert (equivalent of A levels) or graduated from my degree with first class honours because he was so delighted with me and made such a fuss.

Many congratulations on your achievement Smile

Of course YANBU. Go and tell him now that he needs to organise something. Don't let it stew.
