missalien · 22/12/2010 10:53

Not good poor you that will mess up a lot of families. Hope there is some resolution for you :-(

funkingcart · 22/12/2010 11:02

The system failed at the weekend.

They knew it failed at the weekend.

They could've let people know that their payments were going to be delayed.

They had no plans in place for anyone to be alerted if the system failed (or at least that's what I was told this morning).

And surely if it failed on Sunday night (again, what I was told this morning) surely the payment run could have been done Monday night and payments would only be a day late?

The system failed. They did not have adequate contingency plans in place. AND when they found out they didn't fess up right away but sat on their hands.

That is why they are bastards.

So you pay your landlord a day late, whats the big deal ?

That is what you use the money for isn't it ?

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 22/12/2010 11:13

Have you already paid your landlord and then needed the money for Christmas? Xmas Sad

discobeaver · 22/12/2010 11:18

Just delay paying your landlord, what's going to happen will they kick you out? Not likely.

My company screwed up my wages, got paid a week late - not coming on here shouting about it.

discobeaver · 22/12/2010 11:25

Also not sure what being a single parent really has to do with it. Everyone's payments will be late, presumably?

Sorry if you are feeling frustrated but really I think you are being unreasonable.

funkingcart · 22/12/2010 15:25

My payment to my landlord goes out on an automated payment on the 24th of every month.

If the money isn't in by then I won't be able to pay my landlord. And the Direct Debit will bounce which means I'll get a fee

The reason I'm cross is that they KNEW and they didn't tell anyone and they didn't seem to have adequate back up plans in place.

And the only reason I said I was a single parent was because I don't have anyone else to rely on - you are right, it isn't really relevant.

YANBU Totally CUNTING Smile

Don't expect much sympathy though. As soon as you mention single parent and benefits some pretty extreme views can get posted.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/12/2010 16:04

Can you get an emergency loan?

expatinscotland · 22/12/2010 16:04

Cancel the debit now. Then tell him you you accidentally did and pay him later.

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 22/12/2010 16:07

Agree with expat, you can easily cancel the direct debit now over the phone.

AbsofCroissant · 22/12/2010 16:07

Wot expat said. You can cancel the direct debit, phone your LL and explain the situation and tell him you'll pay ASAP. Solved.

expatinscotland · 22/12/2010 16:08

Or online if you're doing online banking.

Just cancel it and re-instate it again later.

Then tell him you got drunk and got onto your account and messed it up.

funkingcart · 22/12/2010 16:16

Have phoned the bank for advice.

Have cancelled Direct Debit for this month and will do "fast payment" which will go through in 2 hours. So I'll be "tight" for a day or two but not broke.

And of course I realise I am being completely unreasonable and it is in no way the responsibility of the government agency to pay me the money which they have decided I am entitled to.

Hmm

funkingcart - have you let your landlord know?

i am a landlord by default and when my tenants don't pay on time i am in the doodoo :)

even if its only a text on the 24th to let them know you have had probs, cause i bet their mortgage will be coming out a couple of days later (its how i organise it)

i'm in NI if anything i can do?

funkingcart · 22/12/2010 16:48

Thanks but it won't matter now - I'll do the payment just after Christmas - rent is due on 1st Jan - and I'll have the money in the Landlords account by then - I was just panicking this morning with the Direct Debit situation. I'd set it up to go early enough so that I didn't have to worry about it each month.

Thing is, if I'd organised NIHE to pay landlord direct, the landlord would be the one in the brown stuff and I feel like I'm paying for the NIHE's balls up

But my original points still stand.

The nihe knew from the weekend that this had happened - why could they not let people know? And all the other points I made further up the thread

discobeaver · 22/12/2010 17:18

Glad you got it sorted out. No-one said you weren't entitled to the money, I don't think?
