to think I should at the very least be warned before presents arrive for my children - unwrapped?!

I have a pile of present wrapping to do - don't we all? I get them wrapped, and if necessary, packed up and posted, on time. How is it ok for someone to send my child a present direct from Amazon, not gift-wrapped, and without first asking me if I'd mind wrapping it, or at least telling me it's on its way? Maybe next year I'll save myself a bit of time and get all friends and relations to do their own wrapping.
I know, I'm being a grumpy cow, but to me it's common courtesy.

I got a giant box of books and toys for my DD today from Amazon from relatives in the US. Couldn't be bothered with wrapping them all individually, so have put them all back in the huge box and wrapped it up instead :)

DD is only 14 months old so could probably have even skipped that bit to be honest.

Just put them back in the box and wrap that, will take you 5 minutes.

Or if it's just the one thing, put it in a gift bag. Wrapping in under 5 seconds.

BettyCash · 21/12/2010 17:09

YANBU - they're being tight not to get things gift-wrapped. It's not that much, and sending presents unwrapped is inconsiderate.

BUT do you rly need to wrap them OP?

Bunbaker · 21/12/2010 17:10

Under normal circumstances I agree, but Amazon stuff has taken weeks from dispatch to arrival this Christmas.

SpringHeeledJack · 21/12/2010 17:11

surely no-one over 20 gives a shit if a present is wrapped or not?

just hide it down the back of the sofa till Christmas day

SpringHeeledJack · 21/12/2010 17:11

oh fack.

under 20

You are being unreasonable

Why do you need to wrap it

Can you not just give this to your child and say "This is from X"

"they're being tight not to get things gift-wrapped. It's not that much,"

I think paying an extra £4+ per gift is a lot of money. Sis and I have a budget of £15 per family member. The difference between a £11 gift and a £15 one can be quite a lot.

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 21/12/2010 17:13

3 minutes my arse.

I have just spent 6 hours wrapping gifts.

I've missed breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea - I am PISSED OFF with wrapping feckin presents.

It actually does cost a fair bit extra (a few pounds per item) to pay for Amazon wrapping, which also looks like utter shit. Would you really rather they got you a cheaper present and wasted their money on the wrapping?

I think you just have holiday rage. It's not actually inconsiderate of them. It's considerate of them to send you something, and the pre-Xmas period is so hellishly busy for so many people that they just may not have had time to "warn" you.

TrillianAstra · 21/12/2010 17:31

YANBU to want warning

YABU to complain that gifts are not wrapped.

Amazon wrapping costs a lot. Or they could have had Amazon deliver it to their house, wrpped it themselves, then paid to post to yur house (which costs money and gives extra chance to be stuck in the snow).

Laurie how many presents have you wrapped in those 6 hours?

zipzap · 21/12/2010 17:31

If you are ordering presents to be delivered direct then paying for them to be wrapped is ridiculously expensive compared to the cost of how much it would cost you to wrap them yourself. I'd much rather put the extra pounds into the present than pay for the wrapping.

The wrapping from Amazon itself is enough - just stick it back up again. Stick a ribbon around it if you must!

Fair enough that you might want warning not to open it in advance - but was the parcel actually addressed to you or to your dc?

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 21/12/2010 17:47

30-ish?? I think.

I have holiday rage and have now eaten half a box of after eights Xmas Blush

littleducks · 21/12/2010 18:00

I like brown paper wrap parcels its nostalgic

an amazon box and bubble wrap is fine to me

SeaTrek · 21/12/2010 18:12

Next year consider getting a load of those cheap fabric sacks from ebay. I got 10 for £10 this year. They are fab! My DS gets presents from my parents and brother from amazon unwrapped. I MUCH prefer that than a load of wrapping paper mess on Christmas morning.

BlueFergie · 21/12/2010 18:14

My god, it would never occur to me to wrap a present someone sent from Amazon. I'd just give it to them in a the box. Equally it aould never occur to me to warn someone I was sending an unwrapped present from Amazon. I would never think they would feel the need to wrap it.
Do people really care if their presents are wrapped or not? It doesn't bother me in the slightest and I know my kids don't give a shit.
Its the thought that counts. If you can't be arsed wrapping it don't.

BelligerentYhoULE · 21/12/2010 18:20

YABVU - why would you wrap them? Just give them to your children on Christmas Day in the Amazon box and say, "look at this lovely present from Aunty Vera' or whatever. That way, you're teaching your children to be more appreciative than you are being yourself.

You're right - you're being a grumpy cow! :)

Bunbaker · 21/12/2010 21:03

"I'd just give it to them in a the box."

But how do you know that the contents of the box are for just one person? My sister sends presents up for the three of us. One box contained stuff for OH and DD and the other one for me. As all the boxes were addressed to me I had to open them to see what was in which box.
