to put stuff in the shed

The temp here is not expected to rise above freezing, in fact not expected to even get up to -2 for the rest of the week. I want to put some Xmas food in the shed, so the fridge and freezer are not crammed to the gills, all packaged up so that it will be protected etc, but DP thinks it's not such a good idea.

I am not talking the turkey or anything important, but bits of frozen/fridge food, garlic bread etc etc. It will be off the floor, hanging up in a large bag. AIBU or not?

fridge stuff I would, not frozen stuff though - freezer temp should be around -18c?

bread and icecream will be fine. meat won't unless you are thinking of using it like a fridge rather than a freezer.

No, none of it is stuff that I would think would go off, I am thinking more like a big fridge IYSWIM.

I just think that DH is a bit of a wuss, as long as it is packaged, what's the difference in a fridge or a bag in the shed?

Fridge stuff, not freezer, unless youbare expecting -18 or -20 tonight.

My concern would be the likelihood of rats or mice getting to it.

Now I like all animals but I draw the line at sharing my garlic bread with a rat - at least not unless I'd invited him! :o

ModreB · 20/12/2010 20:47

Vallhala - no that's why the bag is suspended! I guess the only way is to try it and out some stuff out there and check it in the morning.

There's a guy who lives near me who is homeless - by choice. He buries his food, appropriately packaged, and it does him no harm.

My parents have some lovely stories about string bags of milk, butter, etc hanging out of the window to keep cool back in the day...

But rats get everywhere! The little shits... I hey even if you suspen it they'll manage to somehow get to it!

SnowMuchToBits · 20/12/2010 23:01

If you put it in a sealed container it should be fine. We make a lot of use of the "outdoor fridge" at this time of year for cold drinks (they are all in bottles, so can't be got at by animals).

Curiousmama · 20/12/2010 23:05

I'm putting some food out in our shed in a lidded box. We only have a fridge with ice box (by choice). I used to have 2 fridge freezers in my last home and tbh the freezers were mostly full of stuff we hardly used although do miss it for my batch cooking.

So, I think it'll be fine.
