to be wondering why the BBC needs a special news programme about the weather?

We all know what it's like by now, surely...what a waste of time!

My version would be 'Oh look, the UK is pants at dealing with the kind of weather it gets at least once a year. Thank you for watching, goodnight'.

Ah, but the cold weather and snow have finally hit London now so now it warrants a whole TV programm and everything.

Two weeks ago when other parts of the country were under 2 foot of snow, no such programme at all.

MassiveKnobOfBrandyButter · 20/12/2010 19:35

because we love talking about the weather.

We love a bit of snow and the whole country grinds to a halt.

Other countries must laugh at us and the way we carry on about it!

xstitchsnowscene · 20/12/2010 19:36

Can't have been under 2ft of snow hula, according to media rest of country doesn't even exist. Xmas Grin

lololizzy · 20/12/2010 19:38

no wonder other (much colder) countries laugh at UK when we can't cope with winter

Hulababy · 20/12/2010 19:38

lol xstitch - I know. That photo of DD almost up to her waist playing on the road - well, irrelevant really as not down South.

hairyfairylights · 20/12/2010 19:39

Ah, I see, it's so that we can have a really good old moan! lightbulb moment and so that Sophie dooda can give someone a hard time about Heathrow being closed!

Gosh I'm so sick of hearing the word snow. Yes it's snowing, unfortunately you went out in the car and got stuck. Yes public transport has been cancelled (not really news).

People make out we live in the tropics normally and a cold winter is a sudden shock to the system.

Get over it.

southeastastra · 20/12/2010 19:41

i've been watching news24 and it's full of it. find it quite interesting myself

LifeForRent · 20/12/2010 19:42

Yes snow. Riveting stuff.

domesticsluttery · 20/12/2010 19:44

If I wanted to see snow I could look out of the window. I don't need it on the TV too.

I find the whole OMG its snowing in the SE hysteria hilarious. Try living halfway up a Welsh mountain, then you'd see snow.

stoatie · 20/12/2010 19:44

On Saturday Birmingham airport was closed - News 24 was all about Gatwick re opening and Heathrow closed - not a word about Birmingham -
(rather large place in middle of England is anyone below Watford Gap is wondering!)

southeastastra · 20/12/2010 19:50

it's news across europe too, i suppose people are interested as it's quite freaky for this time of year

jiggyjaggythistle · 20/12/2010 19:51

you have beaten me to it on the annoying BBC weather topic.

i was going to ask if i am being unreasonable to be annoyed by the dramatic capital letters FROZEN BRITAIN every time i watch the news!

YANBU

pinkhebe · 20/12/2010 19:51

I was looking forward to ogling watching Steve Backshall

coastgirl · 20/12/2010 19:53

I'm enjoying the proof that other countries are suffering every bit as much as we are in the snow! Not that I want them to suffer but I am sick to the back teeth of this self-flagellation every time it snows. It isn't just us, we aren't uniquely ill-equipped and everyone else doesn't sail through bad weather without transport problems and schools closing.

mumto2andnomore · 20/12/2010 19:53

I wouldnt mind but weve had less than an inch here anyway !

nickytwotimes · 20/12/2010 19:54

oh no

i am already treated to a blow by blow account of the weather by my mum. this will add to it. i shall look forward to her synopsis tomorrow

THERE IS NO SNOW HERE!

Hulababy · 20/12/2010 19:57

But it just makes my laugh that in the UK it isn't until snow affects London that it makes the news. When the North of England and Scotland where really badly affected (and it was v bad, Sheffield had the deepest snow it has ever had since record began and people were sledging and skiing ont he main high street in town) two weeks ago there was no such programme at all.

LifeForRent · 20/12/2010 19:57

domestic I am in Wales...and yeah major major snow. Doesn't mean I have to watch the bastarding BBC to clarify that for me. I don't accept there is nothing else happening in the UK that they have to talk about the obvious. I wish they'd all piss off and get stranded somewhere.

chibi · 20/12/2010 20:03

I am from a v snowy place in a snowy country

I do not laugh when Britain flails about in snow, there are some valid reasons for underpreparedness

I do laugh at/love the sight of people walking around during heavy snowfalls carrying umbrellas

panettoinydog · 20/12/2010 20:07

all quiet in north korea I suppose

LemonDifficult · 20/12/2010 20:07

I love hearing about the snow. This is when weather actually gets interesting.

And it's not like there's a threshold for what's interesting when it comes to programming Prime Time for the viewing public. Last night there was a programme dedicated to deconstructing The Apprentice. I mean, first time round OK, but Dara O#Brien interviewing the failed candidate for half an hour? Have these people no pride?

CommanderDrool · 20/12/2010 20:12

Oh has it snowed in London?

FrostyAndSlippery · 20/12/2010 20:19

YANBU, whenever they blather on about it I ask "how is this news?!?"

I was quite annoyed though at the first bit where the reporter compared the crowded airport to a refugee camp Angry

Yeah. Miserable people prevented from getting home or on holiday, and people fleeing a country for fear of their lives. That's totally the same. Hmm
