The four of us in a ten year old golf, during the day, a normal four hour journey, how long will it take us? M6 and M5 in these weather conditions; I am really worried, DH says not to be, but beleive me we won't be going if it's too bad.

But I don't want to be stuck in a car forever and ever and risk driving and bad roads.

Am I being OTT or sensible?

Same here, DH was planning taking the kids to Dorset as have had MIL going on for last few daysabout them all going down( which has stressed me out no end as DH never asserts himself and says no to the old battleaxe) We got stuck last year it took us 10 hours to do a 50 min journey with all of us stuck in a car. You would think that would put DH off forever, oh no!!!! he is still looking at the weather. I say knock it all on the head, stay at home and invite some of your friends and neigbours around and drink until its over. HA HA!!!!!

I'm in Somerset and it was really heavy this morning. But it's stopped now and the gritters are out. It wasn't impassable this morning - I walked into work but cars were moving. If there's no more snow between now and Wed I should think you'd be OK.

I'm in Dorset and it's currently peeing down with rain.

Thanks for that.

also in dorset - but heavy snow here - roads sound the worst they've been so far according to my son who's just walked home

please keep on with weather reports as we were due to go to centre parcs this morning

We went to Cambridge on friday from the West Sussex coast and back on Sunday. TBH I wish we hadn't gone but I really didn't think the roads would be so bad.

We came back yesterday through Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells as the M25 was shut and there was alot of snow but mostly the main roads were clear.

As someone mentioned further up be very cautious of the hard shoulders on the motorways. I pulled in as water from a lorry froze on the windscreen and I couldn't clear it with the screen wash and I skidded along, unable to stopXmas Shock

Further up the M11 I saw a car that had pulled into the hard shoulder and bumped into the underside of a bridge.

Keep a close eye on the weather and traffic reports OP and if in doubt, don't go.

Good luck to all that have to travel this weekXmas Smile

we knocked it on the head till Monday, got the christmas lunch today and we will set off on monday, various things really, bad travel conditions, traffic, poorly kids and not wanting them to be scrunched in the car. Had a lovely day playing wii games and all cuddled on the sofa watching Up.

Auntie very disappoointed - but then again she's made 0 effort to see her nephews all year, only seen one of them once!
