to not understand traffic warden hatred?

Please tell me if I am being unreasonable to think that it is as simple as this : if you don't park where you're not supposed to, you won't get a ticket?

I haven't had one in 12 years of driving based on this theory, am I just lucky not to live or regularly visit a 'difficult' area?

I often hear people ranting about tickets, but excluding obvious mistakes in handing out the ticket, are they just daft to have not read the parking regulations for where they parked?

This has often crossed my mind and now I have somewhere to get an answer Xmas Grin

I'm not surprised both your appeals were rejected, Howstheserenity. You were over the line and you were lat back to the car.

Always appeal though as its usually worth a go.

oneortwo · 20/12/2010 18:11

HTS as JJT said, wheel over back line = car WAY over it, so if there is a space behind, its of no use to people with longer cars is it?

I am RUBBISH at parking, almost always takes me a few goes (and often getting out then realising its cr@p and getting back in to correct it) but if I (worst driver I know!) can park in the lines, anyone can. Play fair and you are waay less likely to get a ticket!

we got a parking ticket once, for parking in a residential zone, legitimately, with a residential parking ticket clearly visible. we left the car after arriving home from work, and found it ticketed the next morning.

When we rang the number on the ticket to complain, they said the car could not possibly be there, ebcause their records showed it had been towed away and impounded. When I said 'I am looking at my car... outside my house' the reply was that oh, they HAD impounded it, but had returned it. I thanked them - sarcastically- for returning it to exactly the same parking spot that I had left it in, and asked again why they had ticketed it when the relevant permit was visible... and actually the ticket was pasted NEXT to it. The guy on the phoen started screaming at me 'why would I lie to you. The car was impounded'. i just asked 'well, i do not know, why WOULD you lie to me' and the next thing we know we got a 'witout prejudice' letter from the company saying the ticket had been rescinded.

So, YABU if you think that tickets are only issued if you do something wrong.

noone's saying there's NEVER error or abuse of the system.

Just that there's prob the same amount of error or abuse of the system as there is in any other profession. You got a ticket ONCE. unless you never take your car out of your garage/drive then that means there are lots and lots and lots of honest ticket wardens who've walked past you. This thread is about hatred towards all parking wardens as a group and your one dealing with an @rse doesn't justify that really does it?

Its bloomin cold out there, and there are a lot of mean people that would spoil car parks and roads for everyone else if there were no parking attendants

oneortwo · 20/12/2010 18:37

but as a general rule, it is not unreasonable to say that if you play fair you are unlikely to have much to do with them. If they are a regular thorn in your side then YAprobablyPU and should be a more considerate driver!

I got a parking ticket last week for parking in a resident only bay between 11-12 and 3-4. I am a resident but always park on private property.Because the stupid parking rules may prevent commuters parking on our street but dont help with people shopping/waiting to pick up from the station and there ae never spaces.

I couldnt get off the road because of all the snow and ice. There were lots of cars with huge dents and bits hanging off that had been hit by cars slipping last week (incidently not one had a note left on)

Am appealing this so will wait and see.
It costs £100 though reduced to £50 if paid in 14 days. Which i think is too much

littleducks · 20/12/2010 19:25

I just cant believe that they were sending traffic wardens out but they didnt have anyone to grit pavements

ilovemydogandMrObama · 20/12/2010 19:36

Last month, DD was in hospital while we were on holiday. She was sick over almost everything. We had to go to the launderette. Parked on single lines, which is technically OK for loading and unloading. She couldn't even make it to the curb, so I carried her, the laundry and held her 2 year old brothers hand. She then had an asthma attack, so couldn't get back to the car in time. Result was a £30.00 fine.

I appealed and sent as evidence that she had been taken to hospital by ambulance as one doesn't get a doctor's note. The Council rejected this on the basis that the ambulance report was several days earlier. This was because she was admitted

They still didn't relent.

But a few weeks ago back at home, had to take DD to A & E after the GP said she needed oxygen, found a parking place but realized had no money. Called parking services at my local council, explained the situation, offered to pay by card, but they said not to worry about the parking as it was the least of my problems Smile.

LifeForRent · 20/12/2010 19:38

It's a victimless crime. Fuckin' jobsworths the lot of them. They should be lined up and shot. :o

jiggyjaggythistle · 20/12/2010 20:13

you tryin to kill my traffic warden thread? Xmas Grin

i was quite excited to have got so many replies and a new name out of it...

For those of you saying suck it up I suggest if you are utterly bored you look at Westminster's own parking report 2009-2010 here

At least 20% of tickets (PCN's) cancelled each year. The council loses more than 50% of cases that go to appeal and in 2006 - 2007 it lost 80% of cases that went to formal appeal.

Given that Westminster half a million PCN's (down from 800,000) they are having to cancel more than 100,000 parking tickets a year. In 2006/7 they had to cancel over 176,000 tickets.

So forgive me if I remain unconvinced you must have done something wrong to get a ticket. As I mentioned in my earlier post we have been ticketed for being in a blue badge space with a blue badge on display Xmas Hmm. Traffic warden claimed it wasn't there so we asked for the photo they are supposed to take when they ticket you and as if by magic the ticket was cancelled. This happened more than once Xmas Angry.

Things have got a bit better recently now they have stopped giving TV sets to the traffic warden who issues the most tickets each month.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 20/12/2010 23:59

Westminster issue half a million PCN's

Note to self - preview rant before posting Xmas Wink

bringmesomeFIGGYpudding · 21/12/2010 00:16

Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea (a million years ago I might add!) are primary candidates for fuckwittage and give the rest of the country a bad name! Grin
