My DH is laughing at me, as I have handed him a bag with a few extra items for his journey to work tomorrow. :(

Bear in mind he is travelling into the next county and his drive takes 40 minutes on a good weather day.

All I have packed is :-

Bottle of drinking water
Bootle of energy drink
Two Apples and 5 flapjack breakfast bars.
Bottle of water for car window-screen thingy
Extra screen wash
Shovel
Blanket
First aid kit plus paracetamol
Thermal flask (for him to fill with hot water before he leave the house)
Little containers of dried milk/sugar and coffee with spoons
Safety Travel mug with lid.

He thinks I am being OTT, I say better you have it and don't need it. I think it is just enough stuff to make a few hour wait go quicker if he did get stuck in the snow travelling tomorrow.

And a book to read.

how sweet of you! he should be touched! he is a lucky man :)

HaveToWearHeels · 19/12/2010 21:04

great thread. I have just spent the day digging my car out with the intention of trying to get into the office. I have found this reaaly helpful and will certainly be adding old carpet to the boot tomorrow just in case.

BlathIceSkate · 19/12/2010 21:13

My DH will be attempting an hours commute at about 6.30am tomorrow. He does it everyday but the weather here is awful.

I'm going to go and make him a kit now too :)

DeerHusband · 19/12/2010 22:23

To all those DH's I'm sorry.

So very sorry.

I know I should have taken one for the team, but when DW started insisted I take our First Aid kit. Which consists of a packet of plasters and some Savlon I could not contain myself any longer.

If its any consolation I've now had to put the back seats down to contain the sheer amount of boxes and packets I've been loaded down with.

Oh and I've had a firm injunction against actually using or consuming any of these items as we can't afford to restock.

BTW DH is talking bollocks about our first aid kit (which has loads of useful stuff in it)

He didn't have the back seat down and I'm off to take the chocolate out of his bag...he doesn't deserve it.

I on the other hand have a day at home with three children under 4 years and no transport, hence need the chocolate more ;)

in winter mine always keeps a sleeping bag in the car, shovel, food, boots, water, high viz jacket and a small bag of road salt. Had to use them a couple of times too.

NorthernLurker · 19/12/2010 22:40

If you don't have carpet to hand you could always use the mats in the car foot wells (assuming you have those) Water and screen wash is very, very important. We also have a brush in the back of our car - for brushing large accumulations of snow off the roof.

I gave B/F an old foldup sun visor and he did look at me a bit odd, but it works well under stuck wheels

Glad he got with the plan - yesterday a journey which should have taken dh 40 minutes took him 6 hours!

Make sure he has plenty of fuel in the tank so he can keep the engine running for heat if he gets stuck.
