to think that screwing a toy car to the packaging

is a little OTT! My ds is autistic and cars is his "thing"! I buy him one from the supermarket for him if he stays at home with his dadi and is a good boy. But more and more frequently they are screwed to the cardboard packaging and so we have to search for a tiny screwdriver to undo it whilst my ds is getting more and more frustrated at being able to see and touch the car but not actually play with it!! I assume it is some sort of security thing to stop them being stolen from the shop? But really, can't they find something a little "user friendly" as it were??

And breathe........

And how many would be stolen if they weren't?

Even if they were in a sealed box, but loose, people will still unseal the box and nick the car before putting the box back on the shelf. Far worse to get the box home and discover it's not in there at all.

By screwing the toy to the packaging it takes longer to remove it and thus increases the chance of the thief being caught. Bigger boxes are also harder to conceal.

Never seen that at all.

Have only ever seen wire "tie" things that you either cut or unwind.

I think I remember Hot Wheels ones are screwed in from when my friends DS was small.

Frostyfoxy · 19/12/2010 15:33

The wire ties are a PITA but much more preferable to screws imo!! I can understand that they would need something to stop theives but I just don't understand why screws? Or if they really have to use screws can't they have bigger heads on them so that your average everyday screwdrive will undo it?!

The one I bought today was a Sainsburys own brand one for about £3 (well it is christmas!) usually I buy the 70p ones - no problem with screws there!! Grin

That I do agree with.

Frostyfoxy · 19/12/2010 15:36

On a brighter note though it has reminded me to check the Christmas presents before I wrap them!

I dont think its anything to do with stealing more to keep everthing in its place in the packaging and so many things are now packed with open fronts

I have bought lots of Fisher Price Imaginext and they are horrendous for it. I tend to remove it whe wrapping pressies but this really wont help you

When DS was in hospital I got a car for him to play with only not to be able to get into it for the screws. I ended up sat in the parents room with a knife trying to get into it.

Frostyfoxy · 19/12/2010 15:39

Sirzy hope you didn't end up in A&E after trying with the knife!!
