to think that younger people do not feel the cold anywhere near as much as older people?

and by "older people" i dont mean elderly, i just mean fully fledged adult age, say, 25 + compared with people younger than that.

example - i remember, at the age of 21 going out clubbing on new years eve wearing nothing but a bikini top, mini skirt, white furry boots (dont ask) with just a coat slung over the top. i honestly barely felt it. i just did not care about about freezing cold weather and was rarely properly cold.

nowadays its a different story, my heating is literally on 24/7 in the winter, and while its this cold i literally hibernate in the house, i only go out for the school run or if i REALLY have to. and i am dreading tonight, as i am going out in town to see a band with DP and am wondering if i can get away with jeans, boots and a jumper. with a coat on top. Blush

or maybe i am just a wuss in my old age (31) :o

me bloody freezing - dd (3) won't wear a coat/hat/gloves. Barking!

MrsChemistrySetInMyStocking · 17/12/2010 14:47

I saw two very chilly teenage girls in town eariler, so maybe YABU. One was wearing a t-shirt, a thin cardigan and a scarf (not a warm scarf, a flimsy fashion scarf)

They were shivering loudly and making a very quick bee-line for the closest shop.
My immediate reaction was to think, "that'll learn ya. Coming out without a coat in this weather."

It was bloody freezing as well. I abandoned town early because I couldn't face being in the cold for much longer. I always have been a wuss when it comes to cold though.

DooinMeCleanin · 17/12/2010 14:50

Yes I used to go out clubbing in the snow barely clothed with sandals on and then walk home Shock

Am shivering at just the memory of that now.

Although I do think that the alcohol consumed had as much to do with it as age Xmas Grin

im 23 and hate the cold now. my uniform for the past two weeks has been lock sleeved t shrit jumper thick jeans socks and boots. i remember as a teenager being out for HOURS in my thin hoodie and denim jacket, not always drinking either. i think its as you get older and/or have kids and don't go out as much and stay in central heating land you get used to it and then can't bear the cold.

panettoinydog · 17/12/2010 19:03

yanbu. dd1 (14) was out and about in -5 wearing flimsy uniform and an h&m zip-up fleece. No gloves, no hat. I turned blue looking at her.

LynetteScavo · 17/12/2010 19:03

I feel the cold more every single year. I currently have the heating on 20'C, am wearing a fleece and am shivering.

I don't ever remember wearing a warm hat as a child, and I don't remember having a particularly warm coat, but it didn't really bother me. Now hat/gloves/scarves and a warm coat are essentials.

My kids seem a lot less bothered by the cold than I do.

But then kids will sleep anywhere, and the older I get, the more important a soft mattress becomes.

Totally! I remember going out clubbing in a nighty in sleety weather as a teenager. Now (33), I often tuck my vest into my tights on cold winter days and wear two pairs of socks with my boots...

southeastastra · 17/12/2010 19:41

i think we were generally pissed alot

Caboodle · 17/12/2010 21:46

DH and me had this conversation last week, I also have walked home in the snow in sandals and not been bothered; now it's coat, hat, scarf, thermals etc. But now I don't go to clubs where carrying too much stuff is a pest.

superv1xen · 18/12/2010 17:53

i agree with the poster who said it may be to do with metabolism

well i went out last night and got pissed before i went out so it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be anyway :o

I used to wear gloves in the summer when I was still at school, now I deal with the cold. I have never done cold well, although I have dodgy hormones and can remember having a hot flush on my way home from school in the snow and having to strip off on the bus.

My OH and our eldest are like radiators, so we go together!

spidookly · 18/12/2010 18:33

confud - we have the radiator/chilly person thing too. DH depends on me to warm up the bed for him :)

borderslass · 18/12/2010 18:35

definitely even my kids as they get into their mid teens seem to feel it.
