Home made christmas cards with glitter and toddleresque pictures are lovely. When made by someone under the age of about 6.

Weird though when made by a 12 year old.

AIBU?

Maybe the kid was bored and asked his mum what to do. 'Go and make a really glittery crappy card for that YuleLogLady, all that keeps her going is people winding her up. Oh, and make sure the glitter isn't too firmly glued on.'

TheYuleLogLady · 17/12/2010 10:37

lovely. thanks. i will repent and stop thinking evil thoughts.

at scalding lemsip.

DD went through a phase of making cards - with all that shite from craft shops (glitter, stamps, little stickers and shite).

It saved me a fortune as when I needed a birthday card I just asked her to make one. They were really well done. Very naff though tbh.

This has all stopped now as she is 15 now and would curl her lip at me if I asked her to get her craft kit out.

RubberDuck · 17/12/2010 10:42

And this is exactly why I don't bother sending cards out anymore - what is the point exactly when no matter what you do you get sneered at.

Christmas card writing is a minefield these days. Did I write the address right with the correct naming convention? Do I put in a round robin? Did I buy the right kind of charity card? Do I risk a humorous card? Do I put effort in and make a card? If I don't bother will everyone thing I'm tight or just assume I'm being a holier than thou environmentalist?

FFS. What a total waste of resources, money and stamps.

DD1 (13) and all her friends make each other birthday cards. Cards are a rip off and I think it's nice. I love home made stuff tho even if it's not arty or gifted Grin

FrostyAndSlippery · 17/12/2010 11:13

I don't bother with Xmas cards. They just get looked at once anyway. Waste of trees! Close family will get handmade ones when the kids are old enough to make them.

theevildead2 · 17/12/2010 11:39

YknowYABU. Don't you really?

Think it's really sweet that at 12 they still like doing things like that. Maybe he burned stuff after he sent it to you? Would that be less weird?

SantasMooningArse · 17/12/2010 11:44

Depedns on lots of things.

DS3 has ASD and hardly draws at all; his scribbled efforts make his teacher's day, beuase although over 6 they get how much it is an achievement for him.

Older ds's make them for teachers sometimes or we buy the ones they amke via school, but otherwise they don't think it is cool. Whereas until recently I made all my own but just ran out of time over last 2 years. I did use to sell them though as well.

MemooMerrilyOnHigh · 17/12/2010 12:23

You'll love me then OP because I made all my Christmas cards too!!!

bullet234 · 17/12/2010 17:27

I still make homemade cards for my parents. I am absolutely shite at drawing. But I can personalise the cards to fit in with what they are like and what they have been doing.
