Not the greatest trauma in the world, but we're having a couple of dead trees cut down, and I've just realised we're all out of normal tea bags, only have earl grey. DS is having a nap, I'm rather reluctant to get him up to go to the supermarket.

Do you think it would be bad form to give them earl grey tea for their next round of brews? (we've already done 2 cups of tea) We also have green tea, but I can't see that being any more popular...

(if it makes it any better, I could give them jaffa cakes to go with it)

Earl grey please.

Have you a biscuit?

SpringHeeledJack · 16/12/2010 16:02
Grin

this reminds me of a piece I saw in the Guardian years ago, about a cab driver ranting

can't remember the story, but the punchline was " 'oos Earl Grey? He must've bin a right cunt"

JamieLeeCurtis · 16/12/2010 16:07

Reminds me of that Paul Calf film - "3 fights a wedding and two funerals" (or something). In a misguided attempt to impress Pauline's best friend, who has one all posh by living "down South", Pauline's mum gives her a cup of hot water with a slice of apple on top when she asks for fruit tea

sockmonkey · 16/12/2010 16:07

I'd love a hot chocolate. Any digestives?

SpringHeeledJack · 16/12/2010 16:09

oooh JamieLeeCurtis I remember that

*and the ones we haven't got are shit

werewolf · 16/12/2010 16:13

'Well, yes, it does sound pretentious - but whenever there are 'tradesmen' in our house they either deal with me who seems to morph into Margo Leadbetter at the sight of a white van, or DH, who's slight Kent accent becomes full on estuary, like he's auditioning for a part in EastEnders....'

Quote of the week!

ROFL. Xmas Grin

Darling you simply must, they will expect nothing less!

JamieLeeCurtis · 16/12/2010 16:17

DH likes ashtray flavoured Lapsang Souchong tea. Very Hoity. Very Toity

ratspeaker · 16/12/2010 18:42

When the workmen arrived today one was asking if the kettle was on, the mischevious fairy must have sprinkled me in passing as I asked him with a straight face, Mint, Chamomile or Earl Grey
Glad I'm not the only one

Actually I had tea bags and instant coffee ready on the bunker for them along with biscuits

LaWeaselMys · 16/12/2010 18:46

I know at least one tree surgeon who would love you!

Eskarina · 16/12/2010 19:08
Grin We had plumbers round fixing a valve in our central heating. DH is a real coffee snob (and I don't like it!)and we only have "real" coffee in the house, no instant. I made this rough looking chap a cafetiere of espresso. He was well chuffed and requested several more!
tinkertitonk · 16/12/2010 19:11

Poledra, you are a generous soul, sorry if my response seemed tart. But it gave me the chance to write an equation and there aren't enough of those on this distinctly non-quantitative forum.

alarkaspree · 16/12/2010 19:13

I had an enormous skinhead builder in once who drank nothing but green tea, as part of his weight loss regime. He brought it with him in a flask but was most appreciative when I said I could do him a fresh cup.

I would expect a tree surgeon to be quite posh though. Like an Ocado delivery driver.

gasman · 16/12/2010 19:49

This is a horrible thread.

Just because someone is a manual worker you are all assuming that they won't like 'delicacies' like espresso or earl grey!

What fucking snobs.

For the record I'm a full on middle class professional and only drink diet coke or water!

(May have just outed myself here)

BlackBag · 16/12/2010 19:54

When working on site with the metal basher or the boys the only options were proper coffee from the site cafeteire or else Earl Grey. We'd all be wearing suits - boiler that is Grin.

mumblechum · 16/12/2010 19:56

Our tree surgeon is called Freddy and his dad's a marquis.

I must admit, I preferred the old one who used to climb up the trees with no shirt on

Agree with gasman.

Celery · 16/12/2010 20:44

My brother is a newly qualified tree surgeon. He's a lovely well educated, intelligent bloke, who just always wanted to be a tree surgeon. And he hates Earl Grey.

nannyl · 16/12/2010 20:47

in my house i have builders tea (ie tetley pg tips type stuff)

the only people who drink it are builder type people and a very few guests.

I have fruit teas / liquorice tea / earl grey /lady grey redbush and green tea which are drunk more often than the builders

glastocat · 16/12/2010 20:55

My husband is a builder and he hates Earl Grey. However he went to boarding school, and reads the Guardian. This class stuff is complicated. Grin

By the way, his school was so posh they had a Hot Air ballooning club! I thought he was taking the piss, but I googled it and it was true! Envy
