To feel i should not have to explain myself to anyone

While waiting at the school gates today on dd to come out two mothers took it in turn to ask what i was getting the dc's for christmas & when i mentioned just a few things from their lists their reaction was " thats sinful" to which i started to explain that we go all out for christmas as we don't go away on family holidays in the summer time due to health issue's (me & dd) & they both talked about how i would spoil them rotten and make other children feel bad about what Santa brings them . I felt very uncomfortable tbh & annoyed at myself for explaining why we tend to go a bit overboard as i think its a personal choice what you spend at christmas & as long as you can afford it then why not .

opinions please ?

Wow! You're lucky to have that much to spend!

My only concern is that your children would grow up thinking that spending 1500 on one persons christmas present is the norm. That could cause all sorts of problems.

monkey - that's my view as well, although I don't stint at Christmas I don't spend as much as I could afford to on my children as I don't think its healthy for them.

If raspberry's children are young they may not realise the cost of everything yet.

I understand your concerns but my dc's are 12yrs & 4yrs & don't really ask for much during the year . My 12yr old has asked if we could get him a laptop but actually said only if its OK for us & not to worry if we can't get it for him . We told him we would do our best to get it but can't promise anything & he was happy with that Smile
He's a good kid & the laptop will help him with homework projects etc . DD is only 4yrs so she has no idea of money yet .
