to think that people who send presents from Amazon without giftwrap are a bit stingy?

...just a small thing, and before I'm flamed for being ungrateful for the present itself (I am EXTREMELY grateful!) I would be a bit embarrassed to do that myself. It kind of says 'I'll buy you something, but I'm not going as far as to have it wrapped so that you can open it at Christmas - but I'm happy for you to buy the wrapping and do it yourself'... People are sending me presents for my kids and asking me to wrap them when they arrive. I don't mind wrapping them but I'd feel like I'd look really stingy if I did the same thing!

No, I think Amazon giftwrap is very expensive, and not necessary.

GypsyMoth · 13/12/2010 16:30

all deliveries are delayed now,so will not even be an issue!!

UnpureAsTheDrivenSHOW · 13/12/2010 16:30

YABU.

Maybe they didn't see the giftwrap option (I can't say as I've noticed it) and maybe it's overpriced and maybe they're skint and maybe it's against their religion and maybe they lost an uncle to a papercut and the words 'gift wrap' send them over the edge.

Ormirian · 13/12/2010 16:30

Ha! Just be grateful they are buying them themselves. I end up choosing and ordering gifts for my DC and then ferrying them over to GPs for them to wrap Hmm

Weegle · 13/12/2010 16:30

I agree, it's driving me nuts. I also have 2 DC's bdays (twins) between now and Christmas.

I have been organised enough to do all my shopping and wrap it. Almost daily now I am having to wrap another gift or two which is coming direct. The odd one, fine, but this is literally every member of the family. I'm not ungrateful for the gifts but I have 2 sick kids, am ill myself, and a party to organise, and I really could do without the extra jobs.

Acanthus · 13/12/2010 16:30

Isn't it £4.95 per item? I do think it's a bit steep, tbh.

BonniePrinceBilly · 13/12/2010 16:31

If someone sends a present for you personally, maybe. But presents for your kids, YABVU. Its bloody expensive and you should do it yourself.

scurryfunge · 13/12/2010 16:31

Amazon wrapping is pointless -don't wrap the gifts if you feel strongly about it.

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 13/12/2010 16:31

the amazon giftwrap is bogging and too expensive for what it is.

nickeldonkeycarrymary · 13/12/2010 16:31

YABU - it's a completely unnecessary waste of money.

See, if you order from me, you can email and ask me to wrap it and i don't charge any extra at all.
now that is worth it.

Recipient31D · 13/12/2010 16:33

there is no way I would pay what they ask for gift wrap - I'd rather tag an extra small gift onto the order!

stressheaderic · 13/12/2010 16:33

YABU

Why pay £4.95 when you can get a roll for 15p at Asda - it only gets ripped off anyway.

FourEyesGood · 13/12/2010 16:33

Maybe they've done it so that you can admire the present before you pass it on to your children?

When I read the title of your post, I assumed the presents were for you, in which case I think it's fine not to have them giftwrapped (you open the delivery packaging, anyway!), but as they're for you to give to your children, it is a bit strange. But it's quite expensive to have them wrapped, so I can definitely see why the sender didn't want to get it done.

RockinRobinBird · 13/12/2010 16:34

Have you ever actually seen amazon gift wrap? It's shitty.

makemineamojito · 13/12/2010 16:39

ha ha...actually no I haven't seen Amazon giftwrap so maybe I've totally wasted money on it for the presents I've sent to other people... bugger!

5Foot5 · 13/12/2010 16:41

I think it might also depend on the number of items. In the past I have paid to have something gift wrapped, (though I don't remember it being as expensive as £4.95) but the trouble is if you have bought 2 or more items you cannot pay one fee to get it all wrapped together you would have to pay for each item.

FrostyAndSlippery · 13/12/2010 16:44

I wouldn't mind it. But then, I love wrapping presents! My parents gave us all the gifts for the DC (some of which were chosen and ordered by us anyway) for me to wrap.

Plus it means they are all coordinated with the same gift tags etc Xmas Blush

Bucharest · 13/12/2010 16:45

Amazon giftwrap service is like a Ryanair flight. The gift cost 99p, the giftwrap a fiver.

And you are very ungrateful.

Hulababy · 13/12/2010 16:49

Not all items on Amazon can be giftwrapped. Not all of the subsiduaries offer giftwrapping. And some specific items are now eligible for wrapping.

The gift wrap option isn't cheap. If you feel that strongly about it, just leave the gift in the box it arrives in and let them open that instead.

I didn't have my secret santa gifts sent wrapped as I wanted the recipient to see he gifts before they gave them to their child, to check they were suitable. I did include a message with them though.

ShatnersBassoon · 13/12/2010 16:53

A fiver to have a present wrapped is very expensive. I'd rather they got me another gift for £5 gave £5 to charity than waste it on a sheet of paper and a couple of dabs of Sellotape.

YABU.

RockinRobinBird · 13/12/2010 16:55

It's plain navy blue paper and yellow ribbon. The ribbon has a funky amazon logo on it. As far as I know they make no concession to season or recipient. The cardboard amazon packaging is infinitely more exciting, sorry :o

RockinRobinBird · 13/12/2010 16:56

Tell a lie, I think there is a little label with the logo not the ribbon. There you are, even more exciting than you thought Wink

makemineamojito · 13/12/2010 16:57

It wasn't a fiver on the ones I sent, it was £3...

NoahAndTheWhale · 13/12/2010 17:00

I would never pay to have presents gift wrapped.
