Scooby Doo. In reception class.

After two weeks of rehearsals, songs and nativity play performances, I'm not really surprised that the teachers parked the reception class in front of the TV a few times at the end of last week, but I was a bit startled when dd revealed that they'd watched Scooby Doo (I think the film rather than the cartoon - at 4 she's not exactly a reliable witness). She watches a bit of telly/DVDs, and I've not yet taken her to the cinema as she finds films on DVD quite overwhelming, so I'm waiting for something I feel confident she'll enjoy. I've never actually seen the Scooby Doo film, though I understand it's not much cop. AIBU to have a slight feeling that if they're going to park the kids in front of the telly they ought to find something that's any good? And is the Scooby Doo film suitable for 4 year olds? I'm new to this whole school thing...

Would agree Scooby Doo not appropriate for younger primary school children, as someone else said, its PG for a reason. My DS likes it (age 5) but likes to have someone watch it beside him, to hold onto for scary bits Grin

In my experience it's normal for kids to watch (part of) a DVD at this time of year: they're hyper and sitting watching a movie for half an hour is a good opportunity to let them relax. Also they're tired at the end of term, compounded by nativity rehearsals, etc. and there comes a point where you're flogging a dead horse trying to teach them anything new.

In my experience the last couple of weeks of school before Christmas is consolidation of work undertaken throughout the term, Christmas hoo-hah, parties, watching DVDs, doing Christmas crafts, etc. Kids start disappearing off on holiday as well, so combined with everything else it's not the time to be pushing on with that new Maths topic.

I always make sure I have good DVDs in. Xmas Grin My P2s have recently been treated to The Snowman, Pingu, Hairy McClary and Bambi. Xmas Smile

YABU - you seem to be edging, throughout this (and I've only read 2 pages) towards irritating parent. Complaining about a PG film in the last few weeks, thinking about moaning about jammy dodgers, now asserting your right to pop off to the zoo during school hours - very supportive parent in the making....

At this time of year its not unusual for teachers to let children watch a film at school. Lighten up. It's fine.
