To not bother to do anything with this money

My DCs recently planned to do a sponsored walk and got a lot of money from family and friends in sponsorship (about £100).

On the day of the walk it all went wrong as someone was threatened with a sexual assault and some wimpy father called the police. This put an end to the walk Hmm

I am so annoyed with this over-reaction that I utterly refuse to send the [unearned] money to the charity it was intended for.

I can't imagine finding the time to send the money back to its donors. Of course I would never spend it. AIBU to just sort of leave it?

It's the 'I can't imagine finding the time to send the money back to its donor' that really gets me.

These people donated their money to this charity. Not to you! How is what happened the charities fault?

EricNorthpolesChristmas · 12/12/2010 20:11

Are you insane????? Give the money to the charity you insane bonker.

AnyFuleSno · 12/12/2010 20:11

You are unbelievable. Noone is going to tell you that it's ok for you to STEAL this money.

I hope the police caught the fucker.

PlanetEarth · 12/12/2010 20:14

I understand that you want them to have done something to earn the money, and now that it's been collected you don't want to organise - and explain - giving it back.

So why not reschedule the walk?

BBwannaB · 12/12/2010 20:15

anyone read the Sunday Times magazine today? This story is the feature article.

SantasKnickersOnMyHead · 12/12/2010 20:16

Baffled.

Antidote - I often just donate a set amount regardless, so don't find that aspect odd.

The stealing of the money and the offene the OP now wants to commit I do find more than odd however.

rubyslippers · 12/12/2010 20:18

Ay?

What's the Sunday Times to do with anything?

AnyFuleSno · 12/12/2010 20:19

Oh is this a wind up then? brilliant Hmm

PunningClan · 12/12/2010 20:19
  • The money is not in my bank account, it's in my biscuit cupboard.
  • in a lot of cases the money had been put in the post with the assumption that the walk had been complted in full. I was grateful. I appreciate it would have been easier for the donors to put the money in the nearest charity box
  • I said I wouldn't spend it
  • the event for which the fund raising was for has been and gone.

Did I hallucinate you saying this:

"I am so annoyed with this over-reaction that I utterly refuse to send the [unearned] money to the charity it was intended for."

BBwannaB · 12/12/2010 20:23

The OP is lifted directly from the magazine, right down to the phrase 'wimpy father' so I would suggest this is a wind up.

sparkle12mar08 · 12/12/2010 20:24

Well if you're content to be a common thief and to have your children be common thieves, then go ahead...

beautyguru · 12/12/2010 20:25

Confused I still dont understand...biscuit cupboard or bank account its still in your possession...spent or unspent....It doesnt matter if the event has been and gone...charities always need donations....I always pay my sponsor money at the point of making the sponsor and to be honest I'm really not fussed if an event is cancelled as long the charity gets the donation.

thisisyesterday · 12/12/2010 20:25

thank you for the heads up BB!!!

I can't believe I wasted moments of my time replying.

RustyBear · 12/12/2010 20:30

Like Hulababy, I usually just give a set amount & often pay it in advance. I wouldn't expect to get it back if, for example, the event was snowed off, or even if the person I'd sponsored was ill & couldn't take part. I just regard it as a donation. Can't see why you don't just give it to the charity.

PunningClan · 12/12/2010 20:32

I think you will find it was the Wet Dad Brigade, BBWannaB

MrsChemistrySetInMyStocking · 12/12/2010 20:32

"No, no you don't understand. They money was just resting in my account biscuit jar."

beautyguru · 12/12/2010 20:36

LOL!!! Hehehe MrsChemistry! Most amusing! Grin

RockinRobinBird · 12/12/2010 20:39

So send your kids out round the block a few times. Job done.

HippyChristmaspotamus · 12/12/2010 20:41

so punningclan, what are you going to do with the money?

sobloodystupid · 12/12/2010 20:41

Eh? Waaay too much time on yer hands clearly. If you are Waugh buy some biscuits, you are too thin. If you are not Waugh, then buy an improving novel or summat to fill your time...

comedycentral · 12/12/2010 20:44

I would inform the donors about the cancellation and then ask them what they want you to do with the money.

AnyFuleSno · 12/12/2010 20:44

Confused punning, why have you posted this?
