To not actually know what mulled wine is?

And to hope than in response to this thread, someone will tell me?

I am 32 btw and until now i've never really taken much notice of it, but now every 5 mins I hear about mulled wine and feel quite stupid. Please put me out of my misery.

If someone tells me what it is, I may even buy some. I googled and found recipes - do I actually have to MAKE it?

I've never been fussed in the past but got a big wine glass full free sample from Waitrose when we had the light switch on... it was very yummy

Well I can't stand the stuff but do huge batches of it for PTA type stuff and based on the following recipe the punters drool over it.

2 bottles of cheap red (Merlot)
1 pint water per bottle
one orange stuck with cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 orange sliced
1 lemon sliced
teaspoon ginger

Multiply for massive batches but don't double the oranges and lemons. If you get up to 8 bottles simply double the quantities of fruit.

Shove it all in together and bring up to a simmer then keep warm. Don't boil else the alcohol burns off. If you are doing at home, 3 tablespoons of brandy or cointreau are cracking.

Think the above was based on a Delia recipe. Serve it in 1/2 pint beer mugs for two quid a shot and makes a fortune at fetes, etc..

1/2 beer mugs of wine??! Bloody hell, I want to come to your fete!
