lucky1979 · 07/12/2010 18:26

I'm smug when I get a bargain on eBay, no matter what if is, it's a good thing :)

letsblowthistacostand · 07/12/2010 18:29

YABU to imagine anybody cares. Or to care how much anybody else spends on their babies.

booyhohoho · 07/12/2010 18:33

YABU to feel smug. it smacks of immaturity and competitive parenting. who the hell aspires to be smug? Confused

SantasNutellaFairy · 07/12/2010 18:42

yabu to be smug about it.

You could have said AIBU to feel proud about buying my baby's clothes of Ebay?

No one one would disagree. Smug? Sounds like you want to start a Biscuitfight.

CrazyChristmasLady · 07/12/2010 18:43

YABU.

Why be smug about it? Congratulations, I'm sure you are the only person to have ever done this. Hmm

Should I be smug about the fact that I have sold some clothes on ebay recently to make some money?

theexample · 07/12/2010 18:50

Is it really smug? Is smugness not a trait of those who can afford to waste 7 grand on things a baby will wear just once? I don't think it's smugness in your case but satisfaction at wise frugality.

Prinnie · 07/12/2010 19:01

I think people are being a bit harsh; especially as you've explained the context as to why you are pleased with yourself :) so YANBU.

Congrats - people like your friend are crazy - that 7k would be much more appreciated by her DC when they're 17 and wanting a car and driving lessons etc!

hairyfairylights · 07/12/2010 19:02

YANBU. I don't know why people spend so much money on new clothes for babies. They grow so very quickly. If I am lucky to have a baby I will be using second and third hand clothes at first - nothing else makes sense to me.

BangingNoise · 07/12/2010 19:03

Smugness is nothing to be proud of.

MoonUnitAlpha · 07/12/2010 19:23

Not weird to do it, but very weird to be smug about it Confused

BonniePrinceBilly · 07/12/2010 19:24

My mammy always told me "Nobody likes a smug fucker"

Grin
bibbitybobbitysantahat · 07/12/2010 19:26

Yabu. Hundreds and thousands of people buy baby clothes from ebay. Snot clever or original.

otchayaniye · 07/12/2010 19:28

no, I am smug that I have had two baby girl's entire Bonpoint/French designer wardrobes shipped over in enormous boxes from a friend every six months.

Then I dole the ones my daughter's grown out of to friends and neighbours.

Anything else I buyfrom ebay.

I am smug, generous and frugal!

DuelingFanjo · 07/12/2010 19:34

Lol at being smug. I have just received a lovely Gap snowsuit from ebay.

SantaIsMyLoveSlave · 07/12/2010 19:34

It's a sensible thing to do, but a bit weird to be smug about it.

MotherofHobbit · 07/12/2010 19:37

Yay, ebay is brilliant! Especially for my giant baby who keeps outgrowing his clothes (currently in the 18-24mo clothes at 6mo). I love getting the big bundles in the post. It's mostly standard stuff but you do get a few treasures, and of course for a fraction of the price new.

Can I be smug too?

Firawla · 07/12/2010 19:38

good for you if you found a bargain and pleased with yourself about it, yanbu to be smug about it if that makes you happy, as long as you don't look down on others for buying elsewhere - not everyone has the same taste/habits/budget

although i always wonder how does everyone find so many good bargains on ebay as they always mention, i never seen much on it myself. i just get new, but if i find something really nice for a great bargain i do feel happy with it so yanbu.. i also love getting freebies of people's passed down baby clothes, its quite exciting especially if you have a bag full, just to see what you end up with

TotorosOcarnina · 07/12/2010 19:38

You sound like you are being snobby about it TBH, I buy 80% of y kids clothes 2nd hand but I don't write it on their friggin foreheads and expect alap on the back for it Hmm

ShittySnowyDays · 07/12/2010 20:42

Tis great buying from ebay/charity shops/carboots.

Smugness is shite though.

momof9 · 07/12/2010 21:03

Hello,All
From the post I guess I won't be able to persuade any of you to buy from me.I do sell clothes on Ebay a variety of sizes and will be listing much for the holidays. Many snooty people shop Ebay. They are the customers I enjoy the most. However it seems to me most of you are about as frugal as I.

MumNWLondon · 07/12/2010 21:04

You could be more smug if you'd got hand me downs from friends!!

Woodlands · 07/12/2010 21:07

YANBU, can't understand people who buy everything new. My DS is 4.5 months but has just about grown out of 3-6 month clothes - so he's got through newborn, 0-3 and 3-6 month clothes already. I have barely bought a thing so far - everything has been presents or hand me downs. I have had to buy a few 6-9 month bits and in fact today he wore his first 9-12 month thing (a jumper from Primark) but I am now inspired by you to look on eBay for a bundle of stuff.

I was the same with maternity clothes - hardly bought anything new. I got some stuff passed on from friends, a bundle of eBay stuff, a few bits from a car boot sale etc. Now I'm passing it all on to my best mate (we have always shared clothes, and she is now 12 weeks pg) and she will pass them back if we ever have another one!

Schulte · 07/12/2010 21:08

I am sorry but YABU. Lots of people do it all the time, y'know. But still, well done.

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/12/2010 21:10

Christ.

I think I am the only person who has never bought anything of ebay. Because I can't be arsed to look through pages of shite, frankly.

OP yabu because you haven't crocheted your baby matinee jackets with wool combed from the bellies of mountain goats you lazy tart.

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/12/2010 21:11

off ebay I mean.

Ebay is like Ikea - hellish and full o' shite.

One moron on here loves ebay so much she called it The Bay - capitalised and everything. Twat.
