My first IABU post so please be kind!

I am very bored today so have been looking through a few news sites. I know it serves me right for looking on the Daily Nazi website but...

AIBU for thinking that spending 30k on a designer 'lifestyle' for a young baby (who lets face it probably would be as happy with furniture from Ikea and clothes from Primarni)is utter madness?

Or perhaps I should just get over it and try to think that its their business how they spend their own money? Xmas Smile

The lady has had a tumour removed from her brain...............

Lynli · 07/12/2010 20:07

After having a brain tumour and thinking she will never be a Mother, she is getting a little carried away.

After 11 MCS I got my DS, so I understand how that feels. She is happy, she can do as she pleases.

It is in the Bigots Bugle so grossely exagerated anyway.

The3Bears · 07/12/2010 20:15

Crazy but I suppose whatever makes you happy, why the juicy couture pram though yak Shock

TyraG · 07/12/2010 21:12

I haven't read all the responses but for me, I think if they have the money and they want to spend it, it is their business, but it doesn't mean they're not going overboard. I think it's quite ridiculous.

I saw the movie 'Babies' on the plane from the US to Birmingham and I was amazed at the stupid and needless things we as a society buy for our kids that they/we really don't need. That especially struck me when the American father was lint rolling (yes lint rolling) his daughter while the baby in Africa was playing in the dirt with rocks and completely happy.

MumNWLondon · 07/12/2010 21:23

It says they live in a modest £150k semi, so they clearly are not super rich.

I think they are totally mad as the baby will quickly grow out of all the stuff, what a waste, they should save it instead... or put it in a savings account for her future.

I just asked DD(7) and she said waste of money as the baby doesn't need any of it.

BoffinMum · 08/12/2010 11:15

What is a Juicy Couture pram, BTW?

Lotster · 08/12/2010 11:40

Boffin, may we never know....

olderandwider · 08/12/2010 12:25

Boffin, I'm thinking pink, I'm thinking logos, I'm thinking cute furry trimmings...

BoffinMum · 08/12/2010 12:27

Well it's hardly a Silver Cross coach built special, is it then?

There's 'best' and there's 'most expensive'. They are not necessarily the same thing. Hmm

Sidge · 08/12/2010 12:34

I find it quite strange that anyone thinks that materialism = love.

Whose benefit is the ostentatious spending for? Certainly not her daughter's.

Asteria · 08/12/2010 13:00

All that cash and no taste whatsoever - I can't wait for the "I spent a small fortune on my DD as a baby and now she's a ferking EMO" article...

bunnymother · 08/12/2010 13:15

Agree w MumNWLondon - they live in a £150K semi, so are not wealthy, so spending £30K on tacky outfits is completely disproportionate to what they can comfortably afford. That said, its their money so I don't care. Shame they have no taste - that headband is awful.

Meglet · 08/12/2010 13:41

Did someone say they live in a 150k house in winchester?

Do 150k houses exist in winchester? I never spot them.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/12/2010 13:44

Gah that buggy is vile.

It says they have a multi-million pound property empire, but I suspect that a lot of that will be mortgaged so actual wealth much much lower.

I genuinely don't understand why you would prioritise piles of hugely expensive and uncomfortable clothes for you child above a bigger house/garden with space to run around and enjoy themselves. Weirdness.

Feelingsensitive · 08/12/2010 13:57

Well, she can always make the money back by working as a double for Nadia from big brother...

Quenelle · 08/12/2010 13:58

I think olderandwider is right. The mum probably thought the DM was interested in her Triumph Over Tragedy story.

Poor woman. The DM readers' comments are currently unavailable. I can only imagine what some of them say.
