Having battled through shitty black ice for the past few weeks to get the kids to school, (they have transport buses) the school has closed due to around 3 inches of snowfall, for fuuuuuuucccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkssssssssssss sakeeeeeeeee !!!!

It's a bloody insult, I can remember sitting huddled round bunsen burners wearing coats, and hats when I was a girl in secondary because we were snowed in and the heating had packed up, pah !!

Again I'm going to say it's not the teachers fault. If our railways and roads could cope with this weather, then there would be no transport problems and everyone would be able to make it to work.

And VT, I made the commute from Edinburgh to Glasgow last night with no problems whatsoever, however trying to get from Glasgow to where I live (a 10 minute rail journey) was impossible. I was stranded at a train station with no trains, taxis or buses running at 8pm in -10 temperatures, and being 4 months pregnant I was not impressed. I am now having to leave work early due to further travel disruptions. So I don't think it's fair to say teachers can't be arsed making it in to school, or to gloat about how YOU managed to make it to work although you live an hour away. Big deal. I live a ten minute commute from my work and it is taking forever to get here and back. Different areas have different levels of disruption. And if someone in government/councils could be bothered getting their finger out and actually planning ahead or even investing in our railways to bring them up to date, we might not have these problems!

New York get a foot of snow overnight and has the city ground to a halt? No, because they are prepared. This might be the WORST snow we've had in a while but it snowed last year and had the exact same effect on the country. It's a complete disgrace. And I agree with the teacher/pupil ratio comment made earlier. And also the comment that it's the councils and headteacher's who make the decision. And in actual fact, some teachers might be trying to get into work but are being delayed and therefore when the decision is made to shut the school, these teachers are not taken into account because they are probably trapped at a train station or in their car on the way to school!

Rant over.
