Being decieved?...nothing wrong with letting your child know you love them and brought them gifts...don't get why you have to include Santa ans his magic...

Childhood is a time of magic, suspension of disbelief, a time to be loved and feel special.

Father Christmas brings this...a sense of joy, as well as morality (yes, I know, well wrapped in a lot of consumerism, but hey...they're a lot of parent miles in...'Father Xmas is watching....Be good...'

Everyone finds out in the end. And no one is scarred for life. So let little ones have a magical moment you joyless freak

BTW it's Father Christmas, not Santa.......

Santa is just common.........

LifeIsButtercream · 06/12/2010 22:11

....... at the risk of being pelted with biscuits, I kinda agree with OP a bit......

I have a DD who is 1, and I wont actively tell her that Santa isnt real (I do understand that St Nick IS real btw), and we will be doing 'letters to santa', and leave out a mince pie etc etc etc...

.....BUT, I wont actively tell her that he IS real - I dont think I could actually stand there and say to her that something that isnt real (i.e. the modern santa) is real, I consider that lying to her.

My parents were the same, and I LOVED Christmas and still do, there is more to Christmas than Santa.

usualsuspect · 06/12/2010 22:11

I think op has probably read the 3 billy goats gruff

headfairy · 06/12/2010 22:12

Sinta Klaus is most definitely real... today is his day afterall, there are children all over northern Europe celebrating his saint's day today.

headfairy · 06/12/2010 22:13

sorry that should read Sinterklaas

zanz1bar · 06/12/2010 22:14

Lifeisbuttercream With you all the way.

Love all the trimmings just cant stomach the main course, all the believe or elves start dying stuff makes me feel a bit sick and a bit shocked.

carriedafirework · 06/12/2010 22:19

lol

LifeIsButtercream · 06/12/2010 22:20

Gotcha zanz

I would rather my DD thought of it as a fun story than to be utterly heartbroken when I inevitably trip up like a clumsy ass fool in her bedroom while depositing presents and wake her up, and she sees its me whos leaving her stocking on her bed.

usualsuspect · 06/12/2010 22:21

None of mine were heartbroken when they found out

zanz1bar · 06/12/2010 22:32

Its a marmite argument

I really can not get why it people insist it is real to enjoy all the magic/trimmings, they cant see how it has any enjoyment without the magic/makebelive.

It just makes me feel sad that it all depends on me lying to my dc.

dearprudence · 06/12/2010 22:45

See, I've never judged people who choose not to join in the Father Christmas thing. It's not what I'd choose for my children, but each to their own, etc.

Why do you care so much what others do OP? And saying that we're 'lying' to our children like it's a bad thing. Lies, or untruths, are not inherently bad. It all depends on the content and context.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 06/12/2010 22:47

Oh for god's sake OP. How long does a child believe in Santa for - about five years? Let them enjoy the magic for that long, the real world will come soon enough.

Rollmops · 07/12/2010 07:11

Have a Biscuit you sad person with zilch imagination OP.

BreconBeBuggered · 07/12/2010 10:45

I was never one for promoting the tooth fairy, but as soon as the time came my DC, of their own volition embraced the notion of the winged one fiddling around under their pillows for used teeth. It would have been churlish not to collude in the fantasy.
I love listening for Father Christmas and his sleigh on Christmas Eve.

BreconBeBuggered · 07/12/2010 23:39

Thread killer, eh?

differentnameforthis · 08/12/2010 01:40

Yawn

TyraG · 08/12/2010 06:48

OP you are a total fucktard.

stropicana · 08/12/2010 06:49

You big meanie. Biscuit

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 08/12/2010 07:08

I don't know anyone who feels deceived when they realise that FC doesn't exist! I think most children by that time are grown up enough to have grown out of believing in magic anyway.

I loved believing in FC when I was little and I love recreating the magic that my Mum and Dad made for me, for my DD! I certainly never felt deceived, just felt that it had been a lovely thing for my mum and dad to do!

Anyway, as has already been said, Sinterklaas was real! Look it up on Wiki!

It's nice to keep the magic alive!
