to think this was nasty

I went out for dinner with my sister and brother tonight and we ended up talking about my brothers love life. My sister then launched into a long speech why she wouldn't go out with him and why if he doesn't change his ways he'll end up a lonely old man (he's only 23). My brother isn't perfect he has his flaws but it clearly upset him but she carried on regardless. I just texted to say I think she was mean and she said said it was for his own good and its time he heard some cold hard truths.

How old is the perfect one?

I want to go out with him just to prove the nasty cow that she's wrong.

Sadly I wouldn't up his street cred! Grin

Was it you that posted something similar a while ago? If not, there's another nasty sister out there who did exactly the same thing - the concensus was that the poster should let us see a photo of her brother and we would say what we honestly thought - but in the end it was decided that even though we had good intentions, it wasn't a good idea!

Anyway, just tell your brother that your sister speaks for herself and not all women - there are plently of young girls who love slim, quiet, lovely lads!

YANBU who does she think she is laying into her younger brother in a public place. If he's lacking in confidence and a bit shy how would this have helped

orator · 06/12/2010 09:26

Poor guy, I hate it when people give condescending lectures like this. Tell your brother he should have no problem finding a gf/wife.

Why didn't you say something OP

thenightsky · 06/12/2010 09:33

YANBU

I have a sister who likes to do similar things to me. I don't bother with her any more.

Your brother sounds like my DS actually.. tall, very skinny, shy - the girls at uni adore him!

SantasENormaSnob · 06/12/2010 09:38

Yanbu

perhaps someone should mention your sisters faults. You know, it's for her own good her saggy arse and chunky thighs are brought to attention.

laserel · 06/12/2010 13:04

If she thinks he is too shy and doesn't have enough confidence how does laying into him in public help

huddspur · 06/12/2010 17:33

YANBU I would have intervened and stopped

iwerta · 06/12/2010 17:38

YADNBU shes sounds cruel if shes going to say this to her own brother

LadyViper · 06/12/2010 17:41

My husband is super skinny and when I met him he was painfully shy, I think he is really gorgeous and I'm glad he's not a cocky twat.

Tinuviel · 06/12/2010 19:17

DH was painfully thin, very shy and lacking in confidence when we met. Fortunately I have width, outgoingness and confidence for the pair of us! We've been married for 15 years and he is still gorgeous!

Your sister sounds very mean and unkind. DH has 3 sisters who are all lovely - they would never have dreamt of saying things like that.

tinselthechaffinch · 06/12/2010 19:20

DH is very skinny and lacking in confidence. he has blossomed (and put on weight) since meeting me!

hugglymugly · 06/12/2010 19:25

It is difficult to manage conversations between siblings, so I can understand why you didn't intervene at the time.

However, my DS fits that description and I know my DD would never have said anything like that to him. That's not being a bossy sibling, that's being cruel. It wasn't "for his own good" at all.

TyraG · 06/12/2010 19:26

Maybe he should thank her for pointing all that out, now he knows what he needs to do in order to avoid picking up a harpy like her.

uyter · 06/12/2010 19:35

Ouch siblings can be the harshest critics.

Tell him that his sisters views aren't gospel and theres a girl out there for him

complexnumber · 06/12/2010 20:24

Siblings talking about each others love lives!

Yuch
