Took DD to see Santat today.

It was at an indoor real snow ski slope.

Tickets were £9, to include a train ride, play in the snow then see Santa and have a present. It said on the flyer and at booking that adults don't need a ticket.

We get there, queue for the train only to be told that if you want to ride on the train with your child it's another £1 per adult. DD wouldn't want to be on it on her own so we hand over another £2.

The train is just a little car with a couple of carriages on the back, goes up and down the shopping centre then into the ski slope.

The snow is a teeny, tiny area cordoned off the main ski slope, no room to play in the snow, just enough room for a toddler slide and to queue for Santa.

Go into see Santa, very friendly chap give him his dues, tried hard with DD who didn't want to talk to him (that's another thread!)

Gives her her present. Present is basically a load of free branded merchandise - a string bag with a slogan on it, a plastic bottle with the ski slope name on it, some stickers (trespass and other ski brands) and a snowcamp t shirt age 12-13. Oh, and some crayons.

Now, that is quite a lot of stuff but DD is a pre-schooler, I don't expect your average 12-13 year old is remotely interested in visiting Santa, are they? Nothing in the bag is of interest to her except the crayons, of which have many.

I would have been better off spending £11 in poundland!

Anyway, rip off or not? You the jury!

I'd be interested to know if they change the presents as a result of being aware of this thread quenelle, keep us posted!

shit happens , they need to make a profit somehow...onwards and upwards!

I'm offended by that customer service email that lists SnoZone locations as "Milton Keynes Castleford Scotland". What, all of Scotland? Xmas Angry
Couldn't they be arsed to find out it's in Renfrew? They only represent the organisation, after all!

pigletmania · 09/12/2010 20:22

Sounds like a rip off, I live in MK and looking to take dd to see santa so will avoid this one. Even a choccy lolly or a colouring book and crayons from poundland would have been better.

Rip off and sad too!

Luckily dc saw Santa at the school fair - and for their £1.50 got a pencil case full of all sorts of bits and bobs that they were thrilled with, nothing fancy just simple crayons/sweeties/small toy, fancy pencil and ruler... And it was all in a good cause to raise money for the school. Plus the santa talked to them really nicely!

Have just spotted that Bletchley Park are going to have a big Christmas weekend this weekend, entrance is free if you get a voucher from the local freebie paper and they seem to have lots of other stuff going on as well, including christmas market, ice rink, snow, xmas food, local radio, and other stuff including of course santa.

more details on the bletchley park website

Never been to one before to know how good it will be but have been to other stuff there that has usually been well done and it is a beautiful backdrop! And at least you know your money is going to raise money for a great local venue rather than line corporate pockets somewhere...

and have just looked online to see if there is anywhere else locally doing anything nice for xmas and found lots of things, including plenty of free stuff. Was going to post it but then realised how much there was so here's the link to MK Xmas info

MistressMaker · 09/12/2010 22:26

Thank you so much for that zipzap, looks like there is loads of good stuff going on.

Just remembered that yesterday we were in the centreMK and there is a Cadburys hut as part of the shopping bit of the xmas display (to the left, near next) and you can go in and design a chocolate and then the children get given a load of free chocolate. DD came out with a cup full of chocolate buttons and jelly babies, much to her delight. It's worth a look!

hi mistressmaker - thanks for that, maybe we will detour there after school as a bit of a treat. Seem to remember there was some hookup with MN and cadburys that you had to write about what you thought of it or wishes or something and were eligible for a prize, will have to go and investigate now!

MistressMaker · 09/12/2010 22:49

zipzap - yes that's it - it's a cadburys wishes thing.

Update

Had a reply from Marie-Laure . She explains the reasons for the presents being a bit crap unusual and what the alternatives are.

[Dear Littlesaintnicola,

Thank you for your email, and for your interest in SNO!zone Milton Keynes. I was sorry to hear that you will not visit us, further to some feedback you read on a blog.

The Santa grotto runs as follows. There is a train ride for the children, through the Xscape building to the SNO!zone area where the kids are dropped at the Santa station and onto the slope by an Elf. There is an enclosed area for the children to play and wait to be called in the Grotto where Santa is sat. The children have a chat with Santa and are given a goodie bag and a balloon. The presents should be a fabric bag, fabric crayons (to colour the bag in) and a SNO!zone plastic drinking bottle. Because of the recent bad weather conditions, the presents were not delivered on time, and we gave some SNO!zone stickers, tee shirst or Teddies. The original presents have now been delivered and will be handed out from this week end.
We would also like to emphasis on the fact that the Santa experience is really for the children to meet Santa, see him on the snow and have fun on the train ride. We understand that gifts and goodie bags are now much part of Christmas, but our first wish is to maintain the tradition of a meet and greet with Santa.

Littlesaintnicola, thank you again for having taken the time to share your comments with us.

Kind regards,

Marie-Laure Seingeot
