Yes I know - the boobs, the plastic surgery, Dollyland. Every feminists idea of a freak.

But she's sweet, funny, self effacing, kind, generous and talented.

YANBU, Dolly is fab!

It's All Wrong, Bit It's Alright is one is myh favourite songs ever!

AnyFuleSno · 04/12/2010 18:01

I bloody love Dolly. She's ace. My fave quote: "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap"

nameymcnamechange · 04/12/2010 18:03

I too admire her enormously for what she has done. She is someone who has spent her money wisely and is very philanthropic.

And I always feel a pang because she wanted children so very much and wasn't able to have them. That must have been terribly hard, coming from such a huge family.

queenofboak · 04/12/2010 18:04

I love love love Dolly Parton.

My dd likes singing Jolene (I'm starting her youngSmile )

SalFresco · 04/12/2010 18:06

I love, love, love her.

When I met DH, the Whitney Houston version of I Will Always Love You was massive, and he said he really liked Dolly Parton's version (I didn't know it was her song!). Bearing in mind, he was a 16 year old (so was I!) who was really into alternative music, went to see underground bands, etc...and he didn't care that people laughed when he said it...and that's one of the reasons I fell for him!

I'm not a c&w fan generally, but I'll listen to her sing anything, and respond to it - I cry at Harper Valley PTA when the mother stands up to the small town folk Grin Just love her

YANBU at all.

I walked up the aisle to Butterflies and we had our first dance to Old Flames.

Dolly rules!

Anniegetyourgun · 04/12/2010 18:14

How can one not love Dolly Parton? She's totally loveable. "Love is like a butterfly", and so is she: bright, lively and spectacular. Wicked sense of humour too!

AliGrylls · 04/12/2010 18:19

i love dolly too. I am convinced most people do secretly.

PressureDrop · 04/12/2010 18:24

YANBU. I adore Dolly.

'Jolene' is one of my all time favourite songs. She is a great songwriter.

Has a cracking sense of (very self-deprecating) humour, too.

She's an all round good 'un.

stillbobbysgirl · 04/12/2010 18:29

Harper Valley PTA song is Tammy Wynette tho ... !

I love love love Dolly and I am proud to say it. She is on of the worlds most talented musicians, a philanthropist and astute businesswoman. One of her charities has donated literally millions of books to needy children. She has created hundreds of jobs, has a strong and loving marriage and fights for the underdog and dispossesed. She is wonderful.

As others have said, she is a total feminist icon. She looks the way she looks because SHE wants to look that way ... "it costs a lot of money to look this cheap".

SalFresco · 04/12/2010 18:41

Harper Valley PTA was written by a bloke, and another singer, whose name I can't remember had a massive hit with it first, and it's been covered by near on everyone - but it's only when she sings it that it makes me well up! That's what I mean about Dolly Smile

Meglet · 04/12/2010 18:43

YANBU.

She gets up at something like 4am doesn't she? Hardworking and very smart.

I dream about going to Dollywood Smile

Laska · 04/12/2010 21:39

YANBU - I love her. She has a big heart, and is nobody's fool. If you need cheering up google for Dolly quotes - bound to make you smile.

'Coat of many colours' makes me bawl. As does gulp
