AIBU to be mighty pissed off by the number of threads on this? How many Marys were there in Bethlehem FGS?!

I don't care what part ds has but I am VERY happy that playground alpha mummy's dd is apparently a postbox:o

This is the woman who grumbled last year that Mary last year was (whisper) a muslim! Yep, what goes around definitely comes back to bite you on the backside.

DD is a "calling bird" Confused

& think I DEFINITELY need to double check her take on the required stuff for her costume, with her Teacher - if DD gets her way, its going to be more Call Girl, than calling bird Shock

Advice needed - DS refuses to dress as an inn keeper with the other 180 (I kid you not) pupils. He insists on being a spaceman. He has no clue about the point or the story, just that he is singing some nice songs. And as far as he's concerned, if he has to dress up, then a spaceman it is.

We were sent a letter asking us to dress our children as inn keepers, but that the alternative could be an angel. So I suggested a spaceman outfit with fairy wings. But no - DS has 'compromised' by adding a cape and crown to the silver jumpsuit - to be a king. When asked the teacher seemed a bit indifferent to the costume choice.

Am I going to get snowballed by the other parents?

pumpkinpoppet · 01/12/2010 20:45

Sorry - am hijacking post.

Dysgu · 01/12/2010 22:02

DD1 is in her first nativity now she is at pre-school. She was to play Mary -- however, at the first 'rehearsal' she told the teacher she had always wanted 'the best part' - so now she has it and is EXTREMELY happy that she gets to be the donkey! Grin She has not stopped talking about it - even when the teacher tried to give us the words for 'Mary' to learn - DD1 reminded her that she wasn't Mary any more because she gets to be the donkey!

Poledra · 01/12/2010 22:07

This is a hilarious thread! Mind you, I am a bit Shock at all the people saying the teachers' kids get the best parts. My siblings and I never got any speaking parts in primary school productions as we were teachers' brats (and of the teacher who did all the productions). My mother said she couldn't have people saying only her children got chosen, so we didn't get chosen at all Sad And it was true of all the other teachers' kids at our school.

You could try boxing clever, tell him his spaceman is on a secret space mission, & needs to go in disguise....as an in keeper....or better still come up with something else, with the same costume Wink

other than that, IME the decent parents won't worry at all, & will probably see it as sweet - & any that don't aren't worth the effort of worry Wink

Thinking back, I remember our friends Son dressing as Spiderman for a Xmas play...he wouldn't wear anything else for months, so it was normal clothes for him, I remember lots of giggles over it, but nothing nasty at all, most thought he was adorable - so don't worry

oxeye · 02/12/2010 00:18

Pumpkinpoppet if it's any help my DS will only be a "shepherd king" so he is in a crown carrying a lamb Confused nobody seems to care (or maybe I am just very thick skinned/ unaware! Grin)

Of course, age may make a difference - this is 4 year olds -if your DS is 13 maybe not....

stealthsquiggle · 02/12/2010 06:42

helenagrace what lovely revenge by the teachers karma Grin

stealthsquiggle · 02/12/2010 06:44

..oh and pumpkinpoppet if bribery and blackmail have failed, I would just let DS be a blooming space-king IIWY (I am assuming he is quite young and not, in fact, 13 Grin)

JoBo69 · 02/12/2010 12:26

When my DD (now 10) was in year 2, she had the starring part of.......wait for it.................

DANNI MINOGUE Confused

....in her Church of England School Nativity Play: "The X-Mas Factor"

Confused she was fab (naturally) but the play was genuinely BIZARRE: Mary, Joseph, Baby Annabel Jesus, Louis Walsh, Simon Cowell, 3 kings, shepherds, Sharon Osbourne and Danni!

Confused Confused Confused Confused

Madmartigan · 02/12/2010 13:13

DS is not quite two. Just caught myself reading this thread thinking "I won't have this problem, DS will obviously get the best parts when he is at school - he is so beautiful and naturally talented." Arf, might need a reality check on myself.

Summerhols · 02/12/2010 14:29

I was Mary when I was 5. My mother said she couldn't stop laughing through the whole thing as apparently I was directed to 'rock' baby Jeasus. I took this to the extream and my mum said she would have reported Mary to the social services as I 'rocked' Jeasus so hard I would have given him brain damage. My mum still loves to do an impression of me, I am 32!

londontj · 02/12/2010 16:57

I am still traumatised from the year when I was cast as 'Angel Gabriel's star carrier' until the day of the show when Mary was off with tonsilitis. I spent all day out of lessons learning the lines but she rocked up 10 mins before we went on and I was back to silent (and very sulky) star carrying.

Never got over it. I'm also 32.

We3kingsoforientRaahh · 02/12/2010 17:08

I love this thread!

Bollox! DD( age 4) just an hour ago produced a soggy crumpled piece of paper from her bag(no idea where it has been til now)- announcing her role is one of the generic cows/sheep/donkeys- and can she wear wear brown/black leggings and t-shirt. Oh, and make ears and a tail. Thanks.

She doesn't have brown or black anything! and i know it is bah humbug, but i do object to buying something she wont wear again...Xmas GrinCould she be a disney princess cow, do you think?

She is getting very involved with drawing pictures of the Nativity. She asked me this morning if shepherds have earsXmas HmmXmas Grin

HalfCaff · 02/12/2010 17:21

In reception my ds was in 'The Gigantic Star' She was a cow and the star was indeed GIGANTIC and right in front of her throughout the production! It wasn't worth buying the video...

HalfCaff · 02/12/2010 17:23

Meant dd of course. My ds was the sobbing Joseph last year. :(

AuntyJ · 02/12/2010 17:25

DD in Yr 1 announced a few weeks ago that the teachers were deciding who were having the speaking parts - I asked her if she wanted to do it, she said she would if there no other mums and dads there, because she was shy.
So I told her that if that was the case then tell your teacher that you a scared and she will understand.
She got the part of no1 narrator and turned it down flat saying that - her mummy wouldnt let her do it. I was mortified.
She is now content with being a towns person.

Spacehoppa · 02/12/2010 17:43

I have a little donkey so she is being trained in 'little donkey' round the clock. She will get it.

jugglingjo · 02/12/2010 19:15

Orange sellers Mummy,

Not sure what to dress her in ?

How about taking Nell Gwynn as your inspiration !

I once worked at Nell Gwynn Nursery School in London.

A lovely school, but a slightly unusual role model I thought !

HGsells · 02/12/2010 21:23

This thread is making me laugh, especially all the little ones who insist on donkey role!

DD1(3.5)has bagged the role of Mary this year but she thinks it's the 'singing lady from x factor', must tell her the nativity story....

fightingthezombies · 02/12/2010 21:36

Years ago our school production was The Lion,The Witch & The Wardrobe. I was given the part of Mrs Beaver Xmas Hmm.
