I'm know I'm feeling to sensitive regarding this matter but need to vent. I'm a photographer. Children mostly and often do sittings for friends. Hubbies friends etc. I do charge for piccys but don't charge sitting fees and always give a few freebies to friends. Know one minds this as I'm very busy, have lots of friends so couldn't possibly work totally for free for all of them. So I adopted a treat all the same policy for friends.
Hubby has a friend who I did totally free christening piccys for and also a few portrait sittings for, one free, 2 paid but they did get some freebies included.these have always gone well and lots of nice pics to choose. Anyway this week wife of couple posted a lot of pics on facebook taken by someone else (another friend apparently) I feel really slighted, I know she is entitled to do this but to flaunt it right under my nose is very upsetting
I'd rather not know to be Frank! I feel I've been extremely fair to this family! Thoughts? Thanks in advance

as a couple of other people have said - wtf???
seriously i dont even understand what the problem is here?? what is supposed to be the issue? do you feel you have exclusivity of photographing this family or something? you sound a bit deranged op, i dont get it

curlymama · 28/11/2010 22:38

I don't get it either. Didn't you notice another professional photographer going around on the day of the Christening?

Silver1 · 28/11/2010 22:38

I think YABU but I also think I am missing something-some one put pictures up on their own facebook page, photos of their family, and they didn't breach your copyright or anything like that, and you are cross?

I am a baker. I frequently let friends and family have freebies, and my cakes are very popular. However after giving hubby's friends a dozen free choccy cupcakes recently I then saw them IN PUBLIC EATING A CAKE FROM WAITROSE!!!!!

How insensitive.

edam · 28/11/2010 22:42

Is the family under contract to you? Hmm

Completely ridiculous attitude. You ain't the only photographer in the world.

NeverEatYellowTaintedSnow · 28/11/2010 22:43

OMG. This has to be a wind up, right? How dare they have photos taken of their own child and not consult you? What awful people they are. Hmm

Just tag yourself in all the photos and pretend you did them. Hey presto! Free advertising. Which it sounds like you need if you're having trouble keeping customers who aren't even paying.

ginhag · 28/11/2010 22:46

Ah. Hmm. That was actually a lie. To illustrate a point n all. You really do not want to eat anything cooked by me ever.

It was nice to bask in that falsely-attained popularity for a moment tho...

Ooh I could Kreecher, but I have a friend who is a professional photographer...don't want to rub her face in it see...:o

Kaloki · 28/11/2010 22:53

I assume, going by your OP, that the couple in question have a young baby. Now would it be entirely unreasonable that the photos they've put up are the most recent photos of said baby? Is it also possible that, knowing how quickly they grow up, they like to put the most recent photos up to show people?

Just a thought.

Basically, unless they've deleted all the photos you took and told you they hated them and then put up these new ones, then YABU.

Why does it bother you so much? How can you possibly make a living from a creative profession when you are so easily offended?
