Stayed at a cheapish chain hotel in central London last night and had the breakfast buffet in the morning. We arrived at the door and gave our room number, and the waiter ticked us off the list.
Then he spent a good couple of minutes taking a very cheap paper napkin, unfolding it, refolding it into a square, then into a triangle and then wrapping it around a fork and knife. He did this twice and then handed them to us and gestured for us to find a table.
A few places I've worked, we did this, but always before the shift started or when there wasn't anything else to do. If they'd run out or there wasn't time, why would you bother making people stand there and wait whilst you faffed around? We were sitting near the entrance and saw him do this over and over, with queues building up outside the door.
AIBU, or was this a bit weird?
