To expect my 9 year old child to use a toilet brush?

For goodness sake - the drama and denial associated with it when asked to sort her own mess out!
Oh, and by the way, what sort of chores / responsibilities does your 9 yr old have?

Jennifer - not sure I agree about the 'most interest' being loo brushes - baby & toddler and/or disabled parking spaces, formula feeding v breast feeding and SAHP v WOHP threads get their fair share of interest Grin

Well, only some of us have a baby, or a toddler, or need to park in disabled bays. Only some of us stay at home, only some of us work. Only some of us BF or FF our children.

But we all shit.

My M&D have just had a new loo put in and the poo lands on basically what I referred to as a "viewing table"! and sits there looking at you- and then gets flushed away.

I asked why and she said it was some new fangled "rule" (don't know if true obviously) that new loos have this so you can see your poo before it slips away with a plop and you're none the wiser (i.e. any health issues can be apparent). What do you think is this true? Or have they just got some foreign sort of loo maybe?

Coralanne · 28/11/2010 04:03

I have a loo brush. Don't use it very often but when i do I then take it outside and swirl it in a small bucket of bleach and then leave it in the sun to dry.

Most of the time I squirt loo cleaner under the rims and come back later and clean it with my rubber gloves on and disposable wipes.

Nothing could induce me to put my hand in a loo with skid marks, even if I had ten pair of disposable gloes on.Grin

ullainga · 28/11/2010 08:53

asking someone to make sure there are no skidmarks after her and the toilet is left in a decent order for the next person is not the same as "making the poor kid clean the toilets". if she peed all over the seat, I would think she should wipe the seat as well and would not call it slave labour. you wouldn't?

Oh get a toilet blu, no need for a horrid germ ridden brush!

Room tidy, bit of dusting and dish washing, depending on the child.

ChippingIn · 28/11/2010 10:44

Kettlecrisps - they have a german loo :)

Ullainga - I said I thought she was too young to be using bleach and or a toilet brush (I didn't say anything about 'making the poor kid clean the toilet' though), but to me that is very different to wiping a bit of wee off of the seat and as I said, I would rather she told me and I went to clean the toilet. However, it does depend on the 9 year old - some of them are much more 'useful' and a lot less 'scatty/stupid' than others - 9 is a bit borderline.

dearprudence · 28/11/2010 11:08

Kettlecrisps - the dutch have these loos too.

ullainga · 28/11/2010 11:30

Chipping, I was not quoting your post. There are some posters here though who have said that toilet cleaning should not be a chore for a 9-year old. I'm of the opinion that brushing off your skidmarks is not really the same.

ChippingIn · 28/11/2010 18:17

Ulla - I realise your comment wasn't aimed at me :) I was just saying that I don't think 9 year olds should be cleaning the toilet nor cleaning up the inside of the loo if they make a mess (tell me only) but that wiping a bit of wee off the seat is different and they should do it. I think they are too young to be using bleach and wont clean the brush properly.

wotnochocs · 29/11/2010 13:14

Funny how so many MNers are so precious about recycling and cloth nappies, but happy to use throw copious amounts of bleach into the environment

fortyplus · 29/11/2010 18:56

Grumpla I think I love you! Grin

Grumpla · 29/11/2010 19:59

Ooh you've got me feeling all bashful now fortyplus :o
