he is desperate for a pony.
So I thought I could set MN a challene to find me the cheapest possible Fur Real Pony either S'mores or Butterscotch.
I would prefer preowned as they are so
fucking expensive brand new and I am a skinflint likely to be more readily available.

They don't walk :(

MumNWLondon · 25/11/2010 23:36

look on ebay, depends where you live as they are likely to be pick up only...

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/11/2010 23:38

I know they don't walk but he is only 3 so I am not buying a real one and I have nowhere to keep a real one lol.

So a fur real is next best.

MumNW am watching loads on ebay

A few riding lessons on a real pony would be much cheaper. Could you get him the first few and ask family to get him one each if they haven't already got him something (and if yours is the kind of family where requests or suggestions won't cause offence).

TeddyBare · 25/11/2010 23:59

Or adopt a pony or donkey from a sanctuary that will let you visit them? I just noticed that your ds is 3 and probably too young for riding lessons.

Rockmaiden · 26/11/2010 00:44

This one isn't too bad and they deliver, but wow how expensive!

My DS wanted a dog last Christmas but Santa wrote her a very personal letter explaining that he doesn't give live animals and that she would get an extra little gift under the tree to make up for it. She was delighted on Christmas morning to find a cute cuddly dog and a doggy DVD. Wasn't the least bit bothered at the lack of real dog! You could try similar.

I second the sanctuary suggestion - we've sponsored a donkey for my nephew for the past few years and he loves to go visit. The donkey responds when his name is called and comes over for strokes and a carrot or apple at every visit. My nephew is fully convinced that the donkey is "his" and has a framed picture of him on his bedroom wall, which he proudly shows to everyone who comes into the house. As far as he's concerned, the donkey just lives at the sanctuary because he has more room and company there and he'd be lonely in the back garden. If there's a sanctuary anywhere near you, it's a really good idea!

I toyed with the idea of adopting a pony for him but honestly feel he is too young to understand why others have gifts and he has a tin with some paper in it iyswim?

I also looked into riding lessons but they don't start until the child is 4yrs old so he has almost a year to wait.

I know they are expensive but I would have then spent the same on both the boys.

Ohhhh I don't know whether to get it or not, it would mean he had one huge (3ft) present and a couple of small ones.

Thelady Have you considered "Toffee" instead - this is the one DD is mad over

Toffee

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/11/2010 08:15

MrsSnaps I looked at one in a shop with DS2 and he hated it. He was also playing with a friends S'mores which he loved.

What about a rocking horse?

www.mamasandpapas.com/range/rocking-horses/4995/

as a suggestion. They don't pretend to eat but the fact that they move and what have you might just make up for that.

There are a fair few sites on the net that sell similar, including a couple that neigh and move their tails.

SuePurblybiltByElves · 26/11/2010 10:53

For that sort of money you could get a nice rocking horse couldn't you? Mane and tail to brush, tack to clean and you can make it move.

There are loads on ebay from a fiver if you go for furry ones like this horsey

I longed for a pony from that age and made do with my Dobbin for years. The sounds get old very quickly.

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/11/2010 15:47

ohhhh now i like them!

He has a wooden rocking horse I got it in an antique market.
