to have expected contact from my neighbour before now?

10 days ago I rescued one of their cats from drowning in my pond.

I wrapped her up in an old beach towel and took her back round to their house, the husband (the wife was ill in bed with flu) opened the door and thanked me greatly for rescuing the cat.

I have heard nothing since.

AIBU to expect my towel back before now?

(Some background - the husband works away, so she is left on her own all week with 4 children, we are on a busy main road and can't see each other drives and front doors because of the way our front gardens are constructed, therefore don't really cross paths much.)

Husband probably never even mentioned the towel to the wife!

LoopyLoops · 25/11/2010 18:50

Do you really want the towel back or are you expecting some kind of medal gushing thanks from the woman?

KurriKurri · 25/11/2010 18:56

He probably forgot to tell his wife about the towel, and she hasn't realised.

Or maybe since it was an old towel and had had a soggy cat in it, they thought you wouldn't be too bothered.

toomanychristmaslights · 25/11/2010 18:58

Maybe he has flu now and they are too busy?

DooinMeCleanin · 25/11/2010 18:59

YOu're not really bothered about the towel are you? You want wine and choccies in return for rescuing their cat. Just admit it Grin, you'll feel better.

ChippingIn · 25/11/2010 19:18

I would have brought your towel back washed, dried and fluffed up -complete with wine & chocs if you'd done that for my cat...

However, some people don't think anything of towels etc so possibly haven't even given it another thought - or it's been put in the linen cupboard - NDH assumes she's taken it back and she has no idea where this odd towel has come from!.

mumonthenet · 25/11/2010 19:28

Maybe: Grin

  1. she's still ill in bed.

  2. she's in hospital with pneumonia

  3. or she was never there at all - she left him two weeks ago and he couldn't tell you.

  4. he murdered her and buried her under the patio.

Why don't you go round there with a home-made casserole, and see if she's feeling better?

Bit of an anti-AIBU.

I am the cat-owner.

I fully intend to take the clean towel back with chocolates, but am worried that too much time has passed and she's possibly judging me at the moment. I just wanted to see how the wise MNer's perceived my lack of urgency.

Smile

I shall take it back and apologise for the delay.

Cross-posts with motn.

Very funny. Grin

Ok.

Wine and chocs.

It that enough to display my gratitude and remorse?

Lol. Are you over the flu then? And how's your cat doing?

mumonthenet · 25/11/2010 19:40

arf, good to hear you were'nt under the patio after all.

Think wine AND chocs might be overkill but maybe I'm just mean. Grin

Unrulysun · 25/11/2010 19:41

What an excellently cunning plan.

LoopyLoops · 25/11/2010 19:52

Don't worry about it, really. I'm sure she was pleased to have helped.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 25/11/2010 20:47

Nope, wine and chocs are definitely the way to go. Better to over gush (if that is an expression) and have them say ooh, what our neighbours have done when we rescued fluffy from the pond!
