to hide the vile dresses that DD has been given and never let them see the light again

A well-meaning relative has given DD1 three of the ugliest dresses I've ever seen. I'm sure if I'd scoured the whole country I couldn't have found a more horrendous set. All are fuschia pink barbie branded frou-frou numbers with naff Barbie catch-phrases on the front. Naturally DD (2.11) loves them. I can't stand the sight of them.

If I hide them away, how long will it take her to forget about them?

Jeez. They sound utterly vile. Get rid!

babymutha · 22/11/2010 21:13

put them on ebay - if they're branded they probably cost a fortune and someone else will think they're fantastic. If pushed, tell well-meaning relative that they are itchy/the wrong size/daughter is allergic. DD will forget quickly. hopefully especially if bribed with chocolate buttons.

Charity bag them then someone will benefit from them Wink. IME of a two year old who has just been given a vile dress (by MIL) it will take 24 hours to forget about them!

right, they've gone into the dressing up box for now. Will see how that works out

Will swap them for the clothes my DD (2.5) insists on wearing...

She will only wear "shorts" and "t-shirt" (said in angry and insistent voice). In this weather! It's 3 degrees outside and getting colder.

No tights, no socks, no vest or jumper...

(managed to get her into nursery today with jeans on. When I turned up to pick her up she had managed to persuade them to change her into a pair of (borrowed) shorts...)

You've done the photo thing. Now it's time for eBay.

dockate · 23/11/2010 08:13

We did the photo thing; took lots of pics in all received outfits (hideous or otherwise) and sent ONE to the giver. But you have to be careful that MOST of the pics they see are of your DD in things you actually LIKE - or they'll just buy more hateful things...

Headfairy Confused where on earth did he find those-they were a joke right?

As the recipient of a few items of questionable taste for DS from my FIL, I just don't put them away in the chest of drawers upon receipt. They hover in different spots around the house until DS has outgrown them.
Then with a shake of the head and a muttered "oh dear, that's a shame" they go to charity.
