I don't think so to be honest, I think there is some quite lively debate but there are still a lot more lefties on mn

Appletrees · 21/11/2010 13:25

Definitely still the same luvvie type mc complacency here prevailing but I agree with sea.. people are not afraid to come out with more right wing views. For example, there just a small one, there is ready agreement that some people abuse the welfare system. That didn't really happen before. But mn is still largely informed by a left wing leit motif. Someone correct me on the use of that phrase.

More people in England have voted Conservative than Labour for the past few elections. It's the voting system plus Scotland, Wales that has led to a non-Conservative government.

Just wait til Cameron gets the country back on track; people have short memories, Labour will get back in and once again wreck the country's financies, the Tories will come back... so the cycle repeats.

first, MN strikes me as liberal small l - which says litle about which party they'll ballot for.

social liberals...have few political friends, no political party is willling to stick its neck out on drugs decriminalisation, and the current coalition is running into problems in doing away with the detention laws...

free-market liberals - could vote for any of the big three as all of them support basicaly the same free-market economic framework

I think you would have to be wilfully ignorant not to agree that some people abuse the benefits system....some people abuse every system!

PrematureEjoculation · 21/11/2010 14:11

..and frankly to describe Blairs Labour party as 'lefty' is to water down the meaning of it to mean 'less right than the Conservative party'
the Uk population is conservative small c - it was labours swing to the right that made it electable, the population didn't swing to the left at all!

It was a weird kind of left. It was the sort of pits that stared you straight in the eye and said we believe this is right, while actively doing the opposite at the same timee. There was such a shocking abuse of power, in the name of the people, and of public mo.sh.. in the name of the people.. honestly it was a very strange mendacious sort of politics.
