To request that baby is not weighed, measured etc. until I have fed him

I am due to have an ELCS in about 3 weeks and I have gestational diabetes (not the reason for the section - previous ELCS with DS2 and 3rd deg tear with DS1). I have been very vigilant about my blood sugar levels and am keeping good control. I am desperate to avoid my baby having problems with his levels.
My sister is a sister on the SCBU and said one of the causes of low sugar levels are that babies are allowed to get too cold after birth.
I recently re-watched the video of DS2 in the recovery room being weighed, measured, walking reflex checked etc. This all happened whilst I was still being sewn up in theatre (DH was with him). He seemed to be naked for quite a long time (DS2 not DH!!!)
I have also checked the NICE wrt Gestational diabetes and it is recommended that baby's blood suger is only checked after he has been fed.
Soooooo...AIBU to request that baby is simply wrapped up and given to DH to keep warm until I am out of theatre and can give him his first bf? They could then do all the checks and weighing, dressing him etc. I don't want ot put him at risk by denying him essential checks but surely some of these things can wait an hour or so?

Not a cs but my ds wasn't weighed until hours after the birth. Stuffed down my gown very quickly and noone seemed in a rush to get him off me.

Thanks everyone. I will write out all my wishes and discuss it at my appointment on Monday.

You should be able to ask for skin to skin straight away and feed, even with a cs. It's one of the things I plan on asking for should I ever get around to having another one.
My first was born by emcs and it was a complete mess. DS was given to dh and rushed out of theatre and it was several hours before I got to meet him properly.
If I have another it's likely to be elective cs due to the size of my hips (ds got stuck!)

I had gestational diabetes and a natural birth.Midwife did baby checks first before handing her to me but it only took a couple of minutes.Problems came afterwards as they insisted she was kept warm and were really funny when anyone took her out of the hot cot.Dh was shouted at and asked what did he think he was doing! I would say as long as the midwife was pre informed about your wishes that it wouldnt be a problem. All the best !

I want skin to skin and feed straight away. Will put it in my birthing plan, tell midwife and everyone else and DH will be coached to say the same!

don't they have to do apgar as soon as baby is born? Does it matter if they don't? I have no idea...
My first was whisked off as soon as she was out ( no pulse-they had to do CPR) and the second was a c-section, they didn't weigh or measure him (because I had requested to feed him ASAP) but they did the apgar tests, which took under a minute and then he was on my breast. Hence I assumed they're important.

Maybe you should ask and talk to your midwife since you have a specific concern (with good reason) and show her you have the knowledge and have done your research

yes, I pretty sure they do have to do apgar, but as you say, that shouldn't really take longer than a minute or so and I'm pretty sure most of that is observational. I don't have a problem with that. Hopefully, I'll feel better about it all after my appointment on Monday.
I have been encouraged by all your positive responses though so thank you!

Well, been to see consultant today and have been given the 7th December for my ELCS. Spoke to the midwife about my issues and she was very non-committal but when I spoke to the consultant she was much more positive - said she saw no reason why we couldn't have at least some skin-to-skin contact in theatre then Dh to hold him until I am stitched and can feed him. I am going to write it all in my birth plan tonight and discuss it again at my pre-op then again on the day pre-surgery. Thanks for all the support.
