AIBU? I'm not sure, disabled badges??

My DS holds a blue badge, and we have to visit the hospital regularry for appointsments to various departments.

WIBU to ask people, waiting in disabled bays to move into the pick up area?

There are not that many disabled bays 5 I think, whenever I arrive there is at least 1 or 2 people sat in their cars reading papers waiting to pick someone up.
Yesterday I noticed such person in a bay as I went into the hospital, and he was still there when I came out!

I'm not a confrontational type of person, and I'm not sure whether they hold a badge themselves, but surely if they are just waiting and not parking they should wait in the appropriate area?

so AIBU?

No. I don't think so.

Perhaps say, "Excuse me, are you going to be long in the disabled bay or should I try to find another?"

Could you speak to someone in reception/security? Although, I'm not sure where you would park while you do this...

faverolles · 20/11/2010 15:56

If they are waiting in the car, YANBU to ask them.
There was a thread about the number of disabled parking spaces, and I've often wondered why our local hospital seems to have less than anywhere else.

Brighterlife · 20/11/2010 15:58

Thanks Hecate, I'll give that a go, but I've been on the recieving end of some out bursts before ie 'well you look disabled' etc, Of course I child can't be disabled!

and if that doesn't work I'll park where I normally do (in a pay on return car park) and go and tell security! Sounds like a plan.

Simple faverolles, money, money, money, disabled people don't have to pay for parking more spaces means less money, I find that there are more disabled places in supermarkets where you don't have to pay anyway!

That's such bollocks isn't it! Angry
surely, if anything hospitals should have a higher amount.

faverolles · 20/11/2010 16:37

And meant to add Tight money pinching bastards to that too, but pressed post too soon in a ranty way!

Brighterlife · 20/11/2010 16:50

They are tight money pinching bastards!!!
our NHS trust has been taken over by a building company, and they're in it to make money.
an hours car parking ticket is £2.40, if you are just over that then you have to pay £4.80. I must add this is a small town hospital not inner city, which I can (sort of ) understand

They're not free at the Princess Royal... you have to pay there. You can pretty much always get a space though, there's loads.

whydobirdssuddenlyappear · 20/11/2010 17:02

Surely it shouldn't matter if the spaces are free or paid for? I thought there was a legal minimum requirement for the amount of disabled spaces.
Brighter, you wouldn't be being unreasonable to ask someone waiting in a parking space to wait in the waiting bay (or in a normal parking space, come to that, as they could move to the waiting bay to pick up whoever they're waiting for).

whydobirdssuddenlyappear · 20/11/2010 17:14

Sorry, that sounded a bit arsey. Meant that surely they shouldn't be providing fewer spaces just cos they don't make money from them, as there's a certain ratio they have to provide, iirc...

Parking fee dodging imo, waiting in disabled bays, because they are usually near the entrance and so they can see when whoever they're waiting for comes out. Just tell ask them to move1

thumbwitch · 20/11/2010 17:24

YANBU to ask - it's very inconsiderate of them to be blocking the disabled space unless of course their passenger is disabled too. But they should have a blue badge clearly displayed if that is the case, as you know - no blue badge, no parkee in disabled spaces.

2shoes · 20/11/2010 17:28

tbh I would complain to security, disabled bays are like gold dust at hospitals(I think there is one at our childrens hospital!!!
(no idea about multi story as I can't get in there) so I would block them in and go and complain, even if they are waiting for someone they should move and use another space whilst waiting.
