People coming to visit + breakfast

Relatives come to visit.

Our house is small, they stay in a hotel.

They don't want to pay for breakfast there apparently, so they've just cropped up at 11.30am expecting breakfast when I'm in the thick of making lunch for everyone.

To me this is very rude as I am not a hotel ready to drop everything and serve another meal. Aibu?

Invite them to lunch.

needtogetalife · 20/11/2010 11:48

could they not just eat lunch with you?

NestaFiesta · 20/11/2010 11:49

Say "ah, you're just in time for brunch!"

diddl · 20/11/2010 11:50

Did you have no idea that this would happen?

Can they just have tea & toast?

Hullygully · 20/11/2010 11:50

yabu

Very rude to expect it without arranging in advance.

Set out a couple of boxes of cereal, and a loaf of bread. Show them where to find bowls, toaster, butter etc. Job done!

They are invited to lunch! Of course they are! Which is why I was so surprised that they asked for breakfast.

I should have just said, "Oh lunch will be ready in half an hour," shouldn't I?

Instead, I've made toast, boiled eggs, tea and given them cereal. Ho hum. I'm a plonker.

Well if it´s relatives who you don´t see all that often & who want to spend as much time as possible with you then it wouldn´t bother me tbh.

But knowing I was providing lunch, it would be cereal/toast/tea/coffee, preferably them catering fpr themselves & washing up after.

"I should have just said, "Oh lunch will be ready in half an hour," shouldn't I?"

Yep. Unless it was actually not going to be ready for an hour and a half of course.

Myleetlepony · 20/11/2010 17:53

"I hope you're joking, lunch will be ready soon". And exit stage left.
