To think parents don't get to have twenty minute poos anymore

Aibu? I'm fed up with dh this morning as ten minutes into his epic twenty minute poo with iPhone ds needs s wee, so instead of using the toilet like normal, I put him on the potty at dh's feet to do a wee and leave them to it and go off toclean up from the breakfast I made them both.

A few minutes later ds is screaming, so after wondering why dh isn't sitting him out, go back to the bathroom to find ds on the floor covered in a potty of wee and dh still on loo playing with iPhone. A whole outfit needed changed and washed, bathroom floor and bathmat needing washed and boy needing washed.

Apparently according to dh, it was my responsibility to make sure ds was safely off the potty as dh was having a poo. So he could of reached down and helped him off the potty as he was busy.

Now apparently dh us going to start locking the door when he goes to the loo and leaving the potty outside the door.

I never get a toilet visit alone anymore, let alone a 20 minute one, or perhaps the equivalent 20 min soak in the bath.

Ds is toilet training, doing really well, I don't think it's the appropriate time to try and teach him that if he needs the toilet then if daddy or mummy are in there to wait. Maybe next year or when he'll understand.

Aibu to expect dh to not be sit on the loo and ignore his son? Are a man's toilet visit sacred?

Writer, the visitor thing hasn't ever happened yet, but good call! I'd better start to think about it. I think I'll leave a spare potty on ds's bedroom.

Solidarity sisters! Glad that folk can sympathise, although not that you have the same annoying bloke as me!

Excuse me, but 20 minutes for a poo?!! Sorry, but that surely constitutes some sort of medical problem? How strange.

alphamummy · 21/11/2010 21:36

AM says to DH "Set off in 15 mins ok?"

DH - "yep"

AM runs around the house getting bag ready, 2 children clean, hats coats ect ect.(10ish mins)

Just about to put them in the pram and DH pops his head around the "just nipping to the loo" which means 20 min+

every single fucking time.

I've started to go without him.

I refuse to be ruled by a mans bowel movements!

A1980 · 21/11/2010 21:59

I don't think I've ever had a 20 minute poo.

That's disgusting, he should lock the door and ditch the iPhone, what the hell does he do in there? It's harldy hygienic.

I am also a prude in that the thought of anyone being in the loo with me while i do that fills me with horror. NO FUCKING WAY!

Locking the door would be a good way to start, it's one easy way to get a toilet visit alone.

Digggers · 21/11/2010 22:21

Well I guess the world is divided into folk who are squeamish about pooing and those who aren't. I'm not particularly bothered by seeing my dh poo, but wouldn't seek it out.

Alphamummy, yes mine does that too! Assoon as we're getting to go out he needs a poo abd leaves me to get myself and ds ready!

What is it about the male pysche that neccessitates thus behaviour?

And they say romance is dead

MumNWLondon · 21/11/2010 23:14

I think just need to explain to DH that DS can't wait that long and before he goes for long poo he needs to make that clear so that either him or you can take DS for a wee.

And agree yuk to take iphone in there.

Someone mentioned short poos leading to piles - piles are caused by straining etc and more likely to arise in long marathon poo sessions that quick ones.

sixpercenttruejedi · 21/11/2010 23:26

start doing the same. It funny how quickly they can realise it's selfish behaviour when it's exhibited by someone else.

lady007pink · 21/11/2010 23:30

Oh my God, I'm pleased to know it's not just me who silently seethes while dh goes to loo with newspaper/book in hand and proceeds to do a 20-minute poo - while I don't even get 20 seconds without somebody banging on the door!
Luckily we have another toilet. I don't know what i would do if we only had one.

Digggers · 21/11/2010 23:39

I'm not sure why it's yuk to take iPhone in toilet. I'm presuming like myself other folk manage to poo without smearing it all over themselves and the surrounding area, clean their bathrooms regularly and wash their hands? Makes me wonder what your toilets are like to neccessitate such disgust.

Anyway. . Romance. Yes . Where was I?

Is poo and romance incompatible then?

well i'm going to disagree. if there are two parents around i see no reason why one parent can't take a bath or have a shit and read a book/iphone in peace.

your dh was a twat not to watch the kid in the situation you described - and if it were my dh - he's have cleaned it up/got the kid changed etc.
