To think the Royal Wedding was Waiting for the Tories' Return?

It strikes me as no small coincidence that Cameron and co have been in but a moment when the glorious news is announced. Bet they didn't want left wing oiks at their nuptials, AND it is a bit of circus for the plebs to distract them from the wholesale removal of the state that is being launched as Britain is turned into a giant plc.

No, I think they have waited until they feel that Kate is groomed enough.

Hullygully · 19/11/2010 12:02

Well then what a happy coincidence that her grooming finishes as the Tories commence.

Chil1234 · 19/11/2010 12:07

What 'left wing oiks' were these then? The old Labour front bench had more toffs than oiks.... YABU

Hullygully · 19/11/2010 12:09

Ah, but they masqueraded as vaguely to the left of Genghis.

...and I bet Diana deliberately timed her death to coincide with the first few months of Blair's leadership - so he could make that 'people's princess' speech and become even more popular.

Hullygully · 19/11/2010 12:14

Diana was bumped off to prevent a demi-Arab spawn.

Or perhaps scarred by the way his parent's marriage ended and knowing that marrying him can be less than straightforward William waited until he was really sure that they were both in it for the long haul and till Kate was a bit older and probably in a better position to cope with the constant attention.

To be honest I reckon most politicians would have been pretty happy with having a royal wedding happen on their watch as it's a feel good story. Also they'll still have to invite the leader of the opposition and probably the first ministers of Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland.

It'll be interesting to see if Martin McGuiness makes the list normally has to go to everything that Peter Robinson does, but not sure if that stretches as far as to the wedding of the great-nephew of someone the terrorit organisation he belonged to murdered.

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/11/2010 12:25

I agree with you Hully and said so on one of the wedding threads the other day.

Actually thinking about it has there ever been a royal wedding when someone other than the tories were in power?

Hullygully · 19/11/2010 12:27

There was a great line on HIGNFY last night when someone pointed out that it would have been Charles and Diana's 30th wedding anniversary, and someone else added, yes, and the 37th for Charles and his affair.

getorfmoiland the Queen was married under a labour government, as was Prince Edward and Prince Charles when he married Camilla.

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/11/2010 12:36

Edward & Sophie - Tory - John major
Abdrew and Fergie - Tory - maggie
Charles and Di - Tory - maggie
Anne and whatsisname - Tory - ted heath
Princess margaret - tory - harold macmillan
Queen - tory - winston churchill
Queen mum - tory - andrew bonar-law

Tis a CONSPIRACY

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/11/2010 12:37

Oh yes Charles and Camilla.

But that don't count.

Hullygully · 19/11/2010 12:38

But not a very secret one.

Old Camilla didn't matter, she was a royal slut mistress, so they could get wed under labou.

OP posts:
Hullygully · 19/11/2010 12:39

Labou, a French jump out surprise.

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiLand · 19/11/2010 12:41

Grin at labou

I would agree with you but then someone would accuse us of throwing quiches and piling in to offer support to MN Royalty

YANBU

I will take more than Bank Holiday to make me feel warm and fuzzy though

I agree with my earlier agreement and Rivens subsequent one.

HumphreyCobbler · 19/11/2010 12:52

I expect the royal family rigged the election just to make sure William didn't have to wait another five years

pagwatch · 19/11/2010 12:53

I agree with Jamie but doubt her judgement after calling you royalty.
Does anyone know what Brans feeling are on this issue?

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/11/2010 12:53

I think I can speak for reality, Shineoncrazydiamond, ShirleyKnot, Custardo and Xenia who also agree with the OP.

pagwatch · 19/11/2010 12:54

I think you are over emphasising the political angle. I suspectthey delayed so they didn't have Grumpy Gordon doing the miserable uncle role and spoiling the photos.

Tolalola · 19/11/2010 12:55

Hmm...dunno about this - Not sure that the Tories are universally popular with the royal family!

In fact, someone in the know told me that the Queen absolutely LOATHED Thatcher, to the extent that she often refused to give Maggie permission to sit down when she was summoned to the Palace for meetings.
