...to want to squeeze my DS's blackheads?!

Lovinmaternityleave · 17/11/2010 10:40

My DS is 12 weeks old and has lots of little blackheads on his cheeks. One or two look as though they would come out v easily with a gentle squeeze. Should I? x

No No No! Resist

IntergalacticHussy · 17/11/2010 10:44

i don't know. I've heard you shouldn't, as their skin is so delicate and they'll probably just disappear on their own given time. That said, I did ease out one or two that dd2 had around her eyebrows, very gently, but only because i made a promise to myself that i wouldn't let it become a habit!

You are being Revolting.

NOOOOOOO!Imagine if you squeezed too hard and caused a little scar (like I've done a milion times on myself). You'll be looking at that little scar forever, knowing you caused it rather than wait for them to clear up on their own Sad

Could you try encourging them out with a warm steamy flannel?

My husband has scars from where his mother squeezed his teenaged spots Angry. Please don't risk scaring your LO's skin.

Tidey · 17/11/2010 10:47

You probably shouldn't, but I daresay I would be tempted if I were you.

theevildead2 · 17/11/2010 11:04

Make sure he hasnt got a fringe, keeps his hand clean, doesn't touch his face and get him some decent cleanser.

nameymcnamechange · 17/11/2010 11:08

Have you had them looked at by a doctor?

My dd had a condition called skin sepsis, more or less covered in acne and blackheads at birth (I was left 5 days with leaking waters before being induced Angry) and had to have a 5 days course of antibiotics in hospital. Though those might have been precautionary because they were worried about strepb due to leaking waters, the blithering idiots.

But, anyway, I'm sure there's no cause for alarm but I'm not sure blackheads are a good thing on a little baby.

fedupofnamechanging · 17/11/2010 11:10

It is possible to pop spots withouth causing scaring.Use a sterilised needle to break the surface, as it is usually the squeezing that makes a scar and use tea tree wipes to get rid of it. Better to get rid of them, than let him walk around all spotty imo.

Fontsnob · 17/11/2010 11:11

My name is Fontsnob and I am disgusting.......I do dh's!! Managed to resist dd as didn't want to scar her.

theevildead2 · 17/11/2010 11:15

Christ just reread and dc is 12 weeks not 12 years old!

Do whatever nameymcname said.

theywillgrowup · 17/11/2010 11:21

dont, theres nothing i like better than a good pop of the spot or blackhead (though my speciality is ear cleaning)cleanest i like to think in this county BUT not o a wee baby,my son had something similar was tempted but didnt, plenty of time for this activity later

ccpccp · 17/11/2010 11:28

Get a good blackhead remover. No squeezing or nails, just gentle downward pressure on the skin.

Its not nearly as satisfying though Wink

popelle · 17/11/2010 11:29

Squeezing blackheads can make them worse

theywillgrowup · 17/11/2010 11:30

ccpccp what do you recommend pls

fedupofnamechanging · 17/11/2010 11:42

Shit - I've just seen theevildead2 post about DS being 12 weeks. I read it as 12 years, so totally retract what I said about squeezing them. Leave them alone OP.

Ooopsadaisy · 17/11/2010 11:46

I also thought you meant 12 years.

No - leave alone - baby skin is too delicate.

If you want to squeeze blackheads my son and his mates are revolting at the moment - they are 14/15 YEARS old.

bumperella · 17/11/2010 13:57

I do my DH's (just to point out: he's over 16... actually he's 36. Just in case anyone starts feeling uncomfortable!).
But a 12 week old baby.... sorry, you really ahve to resist. Can you not kidnap a passing 14-year-old instead....?

DrSeuss · 18/11/2010 09:35

Apply a warm, damp flannel, then use a hairgrip that has been well wiped with a baby wipe if you don't have a blackhead remover. I just had to remove a few white heads on my newborn, gross but true!
