To Eat A Vesta Chow Mein At This Time Of Night?

midori1999 · 16/11/2010 23:27

I'm pretty sure it's unreasonable at any time, tbh. But I feel sick, sick, sick and all I can stomach today are prawn cocktail skips and satsumas, although I managed a small bowl of soup this afternoon. I fancy diet coke, but have had one can, so can't have any more.

I feel so sick I can't sleep and only a Vesta Chow Mein will do. Blush

Eeew! That's nasty Midori. I haven't had a vesta for years! And for good reason!
Any particular reason why it has to be vesta?

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 16/11/2010 23:34

Although I do now fancy a pot noodle!

midori1999 · 16/11/2010 23:36

I too haven't had one for years and only had them to begin with as my Gran used to buy them.

It's a gross thing to eat, isn't it? I just don't fancy 'proper' chow mein.

I oddly fancied a pot noodle a few months ago. Not what I remember from the odd times I was allowed them as a teen either, it was vile.

All these foods have been healthified. The oils used and the ingredients have changed over the years, so that they can actually be classified as food. The trouble is that they used to taste good because they were made out of bad stuff!

MrsNonSmoker · 17/11/2010 00:08

mmm. Vesta. tasting it now. Happy memories - this was my first "exotic" meal 40 years ago! Go on, ave one!

DooinMeCleanin · 17/11/2010 00:23

Bleurgh. DH eats Vesta Curries I seem to remember that first ingredient was freeze dried reguritated reformed beef.

YABVU.

I just had a Ginsters Chicken and Mushroom Slice. Is that marginally better than a Vesta?

I wish I hadn't now,the pastry is giving me indigestion.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 17/11/2010 08:10

Very jealous. I am starving and really fancy some cheese on toast. No bread so the alternative would be cheese on waffles or cheese on pancakes [vom]

fatlazymummy · 17/11/2010 09:36

I love vesta chow mein, especially the crispy noodles. There is nothing unreasonable in wanting one at all.
I wouldn't eat one every day but now and again it is nice to have one.
Like Mrsnonsmoker vesta meals were my 1st taste of non English food. They used to be a real treat. I would only be tempted by the chow mein nowadays though.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 17/11/2010 14:46

Oooh, yes, crispy noodles... with soy sauce dripped on them to make them really healthy...

Lilymaid · 17/11/2010 14:55

Ah Vesta beef risotto - the staple of my university hall of residence cuisine.
When I was feeling even more sophisticated I would seek out a Vesta Prawn Paella.
Chow Mein was too complicated for us.

bensonbutnohedges · 17/11/2010 14:57

Likewise Lilymaid. I am amazed they still make them!

lilyliz · 17/11/2010 18:25

did'nt know they were still made, used to love them after coming home from a night out when younger, then we got a local chinese take away, reheated beef curry for breakies, mmmmlovely.

MJB66 · 17/11/2010 20:20

Staple diet as a teen was Vesta Paella..

tethersend · 17/11/2010 20:22

YABU unless you have Arctic roll for pudding.

tethersend · 17/11/2010 20:22

Or Angel Delight, at a push.

Mumcentreplus · 17/11/2010 20:26

Hellloooo!!!..Chicken Super Noodles!!Grin

BuntyPenfold · 17/11/2010 22:52

I didn't know they still made them! Yummy.

Loved the risotto and the first 'curry' I ever had was a Vesta.

I was very proud aged 13 when I made the chicken supreme for my mum and she ate it. She had been very ill with flu and hadn't eaten for days. It was just what she fancied.

Usually we had marvelous food, all home grown fruit and veg, lovely home made grub. Yet when she was ill it was what she wanted.

It must be the same effect on you, so enjoy.

darksideofthemooncup · 17/11/2010 23:21

I loved the Vesta Chicken Supreme so much but they don't make it anymore sadly.

Very occasionally I will partake in a chow mein and even go to the trouble of shallow frying the noodles. In fact I really really want one now, (adds to shopping list) :O.

I know its not real food but it tastes so gooood Grin

midori1999 · 17/11/2010 23:25

Ooh, I forgot about the chicken supreme!!!

And artic roll! Always had a few of those in the freezer when we were children. Grin

This is making me a bit tearful!

My DM used to go out on a Saturday afternoon when me and DB were kids and our DF always cooked 2 packs of Vesta Chow Mein for the three of us. Yes it was crap but we loved it. It was our Saturday ritual.

My DF died 19 years ago and I would give anything to have one of those afternoons, Vesta Chow Mein included, again.

MadAsASnakeNana · 18/11/2010 17:35

Love a Vesta Chow Mein now and then. Haven't seen them in local supermarket for ages though - where do you buy yours?

pottonista · 18/11/2010 17:55

All this talk of chow mein is making me hungry.

diddl · 18/11/2010 18:03

"I love vesta chow mein, especially the crispy noodles. "

Oh yes, the noodle.

Watching them "puff up"

Is it possible to buy just the noodles at all?
