Otherwise known as tossers!

A so called mate of mine has joined this crap multi layered marketing setup. Basically there is the product (a vitamin related thing) and it's his job to recruit other fools who then in turn recruit other fools to sell this crap.

Ok it's his look out if he wants to have an idiotic job but what I really object to is getting phone calls, dressed up as social calls where is soon becomes clear the intent is to recruit me to this stupid company.

What's worse is he's now churning out these annoying facebook status updates:

" [X] is really happy for the first time in his life"
"[X] believes he has FINALLY found his calling"
"[X] is now waking up every morning with a smile on his face"

Of course he's fishing. His friends (like me) post an innocent response and BANG he's on them like a fly on shit trying to recruit to the cause.

It really is like some sort of cult as he seems to have lost all sense of shame

That sounds really annoying! Would not be impressed at friends doing that

YANBU. I think vitamins, supplements and suchlike are best left to official channels, as there is no way of controlling how they are sold if it is so informal. If some idiot (you don't need a qualification or to pass a job interview to do this kind of marketing, so I am being uncharitable) fails to mention that there are contraindicators for diabetes, breastfeeding, pregnancy.... what then? Someone could get seriously ill, and there is no comeback, as the manufacturers/ ultimate marketers have not controlled distribution in any way. And if they are placebo pills/supplements, why pay for them?

To declare an interest, I have been disturbed by the pyramid-scheme/ informal marketing of Herbalife in Eastern Europe. I don't know what the hell it is, and never got a sense from talking to people who were promoting it (I heart Herbalife pins, and discussing it in the pub) that there were any contraindications. That either means it does nothing or no-one can be bothered to pass on the restrictions. Bad news in either case.
