to think this is a lot for two glasses of wine and mince pies?

DD1 is in first year of primary, there are three classes, one of the mums from another class has organised a night out. It's going to be held in a function room at a hotel, there's going to be two glasses of sparkling wine or mulled wine, plus mince pies, and the cost is going to be £15 per person. There will be a pay bar after the first two glasses.

Am I madly out of touch with how much things cost, or is this very expensive? We live in a city, but not London, I'd expect to pay around £2.50 to £3.00 for a normal size glass of wine in a pub round here.

Not sure I can find £15 for a mid-week drinks-only night out, I'd not want to pay much more than that for a meal out.

A class-parents night out, I meant to say.

YANBU that is a lot, are the mince pies gold plated or something?

expatinscotland · 15/11/2010 15:54

Ow. That's really dear. I think if I were you I'd show up already fully watered.

anonymousbird · 15/11/2010 15:56

That's a lot! Our MEAL out including some wine is £20 a head... And at a very nice restaurant!

LaurieScaryCake · 15/11/2010 15:56

It's not dear round here (south-east) - it's £4.50 for a glass of wine.

I went out in London on Sunday - I bought a round of drinks for 8 people and it was £77.

I winced a wee bit Shock

Plopsie · 15/11/2010 15:59

Is the hotel charging her for the use of the function room, though? If the answer is yes then I imagine a portion of that will be included in the £15.

curlyredhead · 15/11/2010 16:26

Yes, sorry, should have said that the money includes some for the room hire. Just seems an awful lot to pay for a room - there are lots of pubs round here and it's planned for a Wed night, I'm pretty sure we could all squeeze into a pub.

Not expensive for SE, I realise that from living in London /visiting friends, that's why I mentioned not London.

That's way to much!
Our local chinese buffet is £15 a head and is yummmy! Would not pay that for less than half a bottle of wine and a mince pie Shock

narkypuffin · 15/11/2010 19:13

It's a bit pricey.

For spending time with the school gates crowd it's extortionate.

ccpccp · 16/11/2010 08:21

£3 for a glass of wine? Maybe for some awful quality stuff that dyes your teeth red. At a hotel even the house red will be about £5 per glass.

Whos to say they will be standard size either? Could be large measures.

Mince pies will probably be unlimited so take a big handbag and steal £15 worth back Wink

PuppyMonkey · 16/11/2010 08:27

I'd just suggest you all go to the pub instead, doesn't seem worth hiring a room just for that.

bellavita · 16/11/2010 08:37

I would expect to pay around £4.50 for an average glass of wine.

I think you are being a little unreasonable.

PuppyMonkey · 16/11/2010 11:46

I would expect to pay about £2.75-3.00 for an average glass of wine.

I think YANBU at all.

And am so glad I don't live in the south east. Grin
