To have given my toddler a drink of tea?

I wouldn't normally do this but ds (23mths) is ill with a vomiting bug so he can't have his usual drink of milk. He has refused to have a drink of water and I was worried about him becoming dehydrated so I made him a weak cup of tea with a small amount of milk in. He drank it all so I'm quite pleased that he has at least taken some water in even though it obviously isn't ideal! Just the once won't affect his iron will it?

My DD 2.3 has a cup of tea everyday!

It's tea for heavens sake! Otherwise she would just drink gallons and gallons of milk and eat nothing!

YANBU. DD (22 months) has started having a small cup of milky, weak tea with us in the mornings. She loves it.

For a tummy bug I might offer chamomile instead - or anything that is comforting but doesn't need milk, but a little bit won't hurt him!

I've drunk tea from early childhood. It does reduce iron absorption and contain caffeine but I'm sure a little bit won't harm. Still love my tea and drink about six cups a day with no ill effects. YANBU

Is milk really bad if you have diarrhoea? I didn't know that.

Nothing wrong with tea. If he is at risk of getting dehydrated, it is much better to get the fluids in however you can than not.

If you are worried about the caffeine, give him decaf tea.

Or, a great drink to help settle the stomach is green tea with mint in it.

i caught DS polishing off the remains of a lukewarm cuppa 3 weeks ago and now everytime he sees anyone with a cup of tea demands some. He's 14 months old!
